I once fell in love with you
Just because the sky turned from gray
Into blue

It was Good Friday
The streets were open and empty
No more passion play
On St. Nicholas Avenue
I believe in St. Nicholas
It's a different type of Santa Claus

My InterpretationI interpret it to be about growing up and how you look at things differently in the process. She sings "I once fell in love with you, just because the sky turned from gray into blue", to show that she fell in love with someone before really knowing what kind of person they were, and the way that line is sung would make it seem like she either misses the innocence and naivety that she used to possess, or that she realizes how foolish it was. The line "I believe in Saint Nicholas, it's a different type of Santa Claus" says that she now knows the difference between fairy tales and reality, seeing as Saint Nicholas was a real person and Santa Claus is a (highly) fictionalized version of him. There seems to be a sound of mourning in the Casady sisters' voices when they sing this song, so I think it's about longing to be a kid again and to believe in fairy tales.

General Commentthere might be a sample of someone brushing their teeth just because i read that they recorded a lot of their songs in their bathroom because of the acoustics. so good hearing!

General CommentNot necessarily quite so happy; saying she once fell in love just because the sky changed color doesn't necessarily mean she is still in love - to boot, she fell in love more with the sky than a person (implied by just because...)

Also, while Santa is a great guy for bringing presents around, he also happens to be fictional...

General CommentWell I'm all new to this whole thing but the way I see it, she's talking about how she fell in love with someone just because she could ("just because the sky turned from grey to blue" - i reckon this implies she fell in lvoe with him/her due to circumstance).

And as for the whole Santa Claus thing, she's saying she believes in Saint Nicholas, who was real, as opposed to Santa Claus - who (if you're below ten, look away) wasn't and isn't.

"I believe in St. Nicholas, It's a different type of Santa Claus". I think that's kind of simple, at least by my interpretation. Santa Claus is fictional, wheras Saint Nicholas was real. It's like saying 'I believe in love, it's a different type of fairytale'. I'm guessing.
