Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Say goodbye to mom and dad
The two best friends I never had
To be knowing where I'm going
How about you?
Give them all my love so much
I promise that I'll stay in touch
If I know where I am going, so will you
(and you too)
I've thought about so many things
It only complicates my dreams
It's keeping me from knowing what to do
Got to go, I'm loosing touch
I think about you way too much
It's keeping me from knowing me or you
(or you)
The two best friends I never had
To be knowing where I'm going
How about you?
Give them all my love so much
I promise that I'll stay in touch
If I know where I am going, so will you
(and you too)
I've thought about so many things
It only complicates my dreams
It's keeping me from knowing what to do
Got to go, I'm loosing touch
I think about you way too much
It's keeping me from knowing me or you
(or you)

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

I fucking love this song.
yeah, my fav BJM song since becoming a fan.
OK, I have a question, what is the instrument that follows the humming pattern throughout the song? you can hear it easily in the beginning.
This song made me cry the first time I heard it on Dig, the documentary on the BJM and the Dandy Warhols. It just sums up my whole relationship with my own parents..it's like one of those songs I hear that is so perfect that I almost feel like I could have written it myself verbatum.
A note for BJM fans: You can download ALL of their albums on their website brianjonestownmassacre.com
Not anymore, I'm afraid
it's a lovely song and it really showcases anton's talent for multiple instruments as well. he's phenomenal.
i love this song and i guess i appreciate more for having seen the way that it was made in dig, the way that anton can put together so many random songs and make it something so whole and perfect. he's phenomenal.
oh god, dig made it so sad and so beautiful dig was such a beautiful movie. but it almost hurt me in the end, it seemed liek they were trying to get yo uto think DANDY WARHOLS GOOD BJM NOT NEARLY AS MUCH SO cause honestly, i think of them on the same platform of greatness
you cant even compare the fuckin dandy warhols to the bjm, antons a genius and his music is on some very different level than the dandys crap.its tv commercial music as you could see in europe..... "....hence my theory, the dandy warhols are nothing but a bunch of fags...."j.gion
ohh maaaaan! right now i can relate to this song so much.
its so amazing what courtney says at the end, how he thinks his bands top shit, and bjm are a piece of junky shit, but when he says that anton wrote a new song courtney says something along the lines of him never going to be able to write as good as anton, dig makes courtney taylor taylor out to be a massive stuck up dude, but that makes him seem like a normalish person!
