"Denkmal" as written by and Pola Roy Judith Holofernes....
Komm mal ans Fenster komm her zu mir
Siehst du da drüben gleich da hinterm Wellblechzaun
Unser Abbild in Stein gehaun

Da steht in goldener Schrift

General CommentShe thinks, that everybody has to many expectationes to this relationship and too many people talk into it, and she is afraid, that that´ll kill their love

General CommentShe think that all the people thinks their relasionship is perfekt... Such as "They both will die old together"

That makes the Partners to stop investition in love.

General Commentthis is one of my favourite songs and i've listened to it many times. personally i think this song is more as just a love story. Wir sind helden songs are obviously love-songs but they also work a lot of social critic in them.

i think it's about their band being put on a "piédestal" by 'critics' how they fear not being able to live up to their reputation; overexposure will kill their music. they think that the praise and fame they got (out of their first album) was quite cheap (hence the statue in front of the aldi) and thus likely to be broken.

another sentence that struck me was "Siehst du die Inschrift da unten bei den Schuhen
Da steht in goldener Schrift wir sollen in Ewigkeit ruhen"
that sentence always remembers me of cologne. the edith stein "denkmal.

of course there is also the connexion to a love story namely the ending scene of "jeux d'enfants" (2003) that is clear in the sentence "Wenn uns jetzt hier wer erwischt sind wir für immer vereint in Beton und Seligkeit" but because the song was on their 2003 album i think it's just a case of coincidence.

and after all any song is just about what it means to YOU.

General CommentCome over to the window, come over here to me
Do you see what I see over there behind the iron fence?
    Because over there at Aldi
They've made an image of us in stone

Come onto the road, come over here to me
Everywhere there are half-crushed bouquets and flowers
Looks like they're unveiling our memorial
    Without us tonight

    Take the sledgehammer!
They have built us a memorial
    and every retard knows
that this love will wreck it
I'll go get the worst tagger
    In this city
    Overnight the rubble
    Will be smeared with slogans.

Get on your legs, come over here to me
It will soon be daytime and we don't have forever
If we're caught we;ll forever be united
    in concrete and animosity

Can you see the inscription below, by our feet?
Written there in golden text - we shall rest forever.

My InterpretationI'm pretty sure its about how things start feeling like an obligation when people begin to have a certain view of "the way you are suppsed to be".

For example within love: Instead of the feelings for each other, there's suddely an odd obligation to be together, because people expect that you to be in love. The "belonging together" just overwrites that you acutally "want" to be together. Through that it suddenly gets hard to actually want it.
It's sort of what you'd call reactance in sociological terms. If you feel like being forced to do something, the most beautiful things suddenly seem annoying and wrong.

I imagine the same things can happen with fame, which might be what this song is about. People have a picture of you, that may or may not be realistic, negative or positive - but the expectations sort of make you feel trapped and obligated, wich is harmful to art.

It can happen through a real symbol like in marriage or it might just be the expectance of friends.
