Looking from a window above, it's like a story of love
Can you hear me
Came back only yesterday
I'm moving further away
Want you near me

All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you

Sometimes when I think of her name
When it's only a game
And I need you
Listen to the words that you say
It's getting harder to stay
When I see you

All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you

All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you

This is going to take a long time
And I wonder what's mine
Can't take no more
Wonder if you'll understand
It's just the touch of your hand
Behind a closed door

All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you

    Sheesh, kids these days...

No, this song was NOT written for the movie Can't Hardly Wait, it was released by Yaz in 1982 on eighties classic "Upstairs at Eric's".

No, his voice is not gorgeous, it was sung by Alison Moyet, who does admittedly have a deep voice, smokey for a woman, but is all female.

This song is great, one of my favorites. It is a little difficult to attach a meaning to it simply because the meaning is different for everyone. Some people see this as a breakup song and to other's it is their wedding song and I think that is the beauty of songs like these. They have the ability of taking us back to that point in our lives when we felt heartache or joy.

I remember the heartache after a break up back in the 80's and this song playing over and over on the radio and the tears just roliing down my cheeks again and again. Oh the pain fo being a teenager. This sure captured it.

No one is talking about the song meaning itself.

Even more beautiful when harmonized by The Flying Pickets.

This song is about separation from your only love and the long and uncertain road back home.

'Only You' came out in 1982, when I was in the third year of my relationship with my future wife. It has been 'Only Her' for 28 years. Now my chronic addiction is tearing us apart.

We are recently separated: "I'm moving farther away, want you near me."

My pleas to come back home are being met with tough liove: "Listen to what you have to say, it's getting harder to stay."

I realize now: "This is going to take along time, and wonder what's mine, can't take no more. All I want is the touch of your hand behind a closed door."

And as the reality sets in, the chorus keeps going through my head: "All I needed was the love you gave. All I needed for another day. And all I ever knew, only you."

Why didn't I see this before? The past tense of the lyrics gives a sense of capitulation. But I am not giving up as long as I get sober.

For another take on growing old and possibly alone, listen to Lukas Graham and his song, '7 Years,' which asks when we are 60, "Will I think the world is cold or will I have lots of children who can warm me?"

Time will tell, one day at a time....

firstly this reminds me of The Office as its played on the christmas special as Tim and Dawn finally get together! but it also has personal meaning for me theres this girl on my course at uni, a few months ago i used to really fancy her (but i had a rival mate who also did). i asked her out but she said no but we we remained good friends. i never lost the feelings though and she knew how much i liked her... for her 21st we went down to where she lives in surrey where we went out in the evening. at a nightclub she was dancing with my mate and they were kissing, passionately. i was very upset and broken! the night after she apolagised in a txt for her 'drunken insensitive actions' and how nothing more would happen as were both friends to her. 2 days later it was valantines day. i sent her a card, disguising my writing and not signing it. i also quoted lines from this song on the envelope.

she worked out the card was from me, and said it was the most amazing card shes ever had, and its one of her favourite songs! i had no idea she even knew the song! so i'll always think of this song as something which helped me turn a really shitty weekend completely on its head and repair a strong friendship which really looked like it could be lost at one point.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
