eternitity is pressed against my eyelids
by brittle fists that i cannot avoid
and though each fingers grip has been relentless
the moments they just keep on slipping by
and i am now aware that i haven't always had been at this moment
sat me there sitting by the fire and blue waiting for you
and though ive been expected
i've never quite accepted that the fire had suddenly gone out

the hands will fall away, the pain appeal
the trees will say its okay
cause i'm scared that theres no answer
cause i'm scared theres no dreamers
in this life of mine there is only time
the illusion of which is gone

all my words are spread across the canvas
no one's seemed to see the things i say
and those these eyes were once those of an artist failure has relieved me of a face
and i am now aware that i am only the brushstrokes on the headstone of a man that never lived
and this oh this, is this, a life that i have failed and i hoped to be forgiven

the fire had suddenly gone out
the hands will fall away, the pain appeal
the trees will say its okay
cause i'm scared that theres no answer
cause i'm scared theres no dreamers
in this life of mine there is only time
the illusion of which is gone

so what is left
waiting to be a man
i hanged myself to the guilt to the end
with your eyes open you stand standing still
we got a lot to say, got a lot to do
boys are in the street
they just want to do what they want
we dont care how

General CommentEternity is pressed against my eyelids
By brittle fists that I cannot avoid
And though each finger's grip has been relentless
The moments, they just keep on slipping by

And I am now aware that I
Haven't always had been at this moment
I've been sitting by the fire and blue, waiting for you
    And though I've been expecting,
    I have never quite accepted
That the fire will suddenly go out

    The hands will fall away
    The paint will peel
    The trees will sadly sway
'Cause I'm scared that there's no answer
'cause I'm scared theres no dreamers
And in this life of mine, there is only time,
The illusion of which is gone

All my words are spread across the canvas
No one's seemed to see the things I say
And those these eyes were once those of an artist,
Failure has relieved me of a face
And I am now aware that I am only the brush strokes
On the headstone of a man that never lived
And this, oh this, is his life, that I have failed him
And I hoped to be forgiven

The fire will suddenly go out
    The hands will fall away
    The paint will peel
    The trees will sadly sway
'Cause I'm scared that there's no answer
'Cause I'm scared theres no dreamers
And in this life of mine, there is only time,
The illusion of which is gone

So what is left waiting to be a man
    I hanged myself to be
And just sadly sit with your eyes focused
    (Can't make out this line)

We got a lot to say
Oh, we got a lot to do
The boys are in the street
They just want to do what they want
    And we don't care
Oh, no, we don't care anymore
    (Fade to end)

General CommentI find it odd that so every lyric website I have found has this song totally wrong.
This might have a few mistakes but it is closer to what anybody else has posted( makes more sense too).

I can’t get myself to be
And just sadly sit with your eyes half-closed
(Can't make out this line either)

It might be "sadly sway" instead of "stay this way", but I think i'm right. Its very hard to tell the way he sings it, but I hear an "is" as in "this" right before the stay or sway, not the "ly" that would be there with "sadly." I wish I could verify this with legitimate lyrics from the actual band though......

General CommentI saw these guys with mewithoutYou a few weeks ago, & oh man, they were great! Especially this song! Aaron Weiss (lead singer of mewithoutYou) came out and did a part on the drums with the drummer & the guitar player had maracas & then started doing this beat on a snare drum and at the end they were all singing & chanting...ahhh it was so great! I love this song...

General CommentI saw these guys play with Murder By Death. This song sold me on the album. The way they played it live. It had such an epic feeling.

General CommentI also saw them open for mewithoutYou and I instantly loved the music. I think they are incredibly live, but their cds don't do them justice.

General CommentThis song has so many raw emotions. It gives me chills when I hear it. Eternity as a bitter fist, what a great analogy.

General CommentCause I'm scared that there's no answer
Cause I'm scared that there's no truth
In this life of mine, there is only time
The illusion of which is gone

    So what is left
    Waiting to be
The man I've painted myself to be

    ect, ect.

I know that many lyrics websites will say different but that's what I hear when I listen to this song. I've seen this band live many times and they're incredible. One show in particular with Manchester Orchestra and mewithoutYou, during this song, the bands all came out and played the drum solo at the end. AMAZINGGGGGG. I get chills everytime I hear it.
