Packed everything you had into the car,
Rolled the whole thing into the lake,
Now there's nothing left to tie you to this place,
Except a heavy, sinking ache.

The water's surface settled down again,
With one more secret buried below.
That's one more life you've lived and left behind,
But it gets no easier to let go.

But running is the one thing that
You have always known just how to do,
Because the trouble up ahead might not
Be as bad as what's waiting here for you.

But you're so tired.
(running is the one thing that
you have always known just how to do)
You've grown so tired.
(because the trouble up ahead might not
be as bad as what's waiting here for you)

    how is this?

this song is amazing. I love the first line of this song especially. There is something about the way he says it that makes it special.

    either way. great song.
"But running is the one thing that
You have always known just how to do"

i'd say the meaning is fairly obvious.
    just generally well written.

General Commenti agree. this song is amazing. the strings at the end nearly bring tears. i get like that sometimes if a song is really that beautiful!

one question though, who do you think he's talking to?

General CommentI don't know for sure.

Obviously there's the boyfriend/girlfriend scene, a possible and logical subject for the song. However, some aspects leave you feeling as if he is talking to himself. I think it's very clever if that was the intention, because it's hard to do that effectively. Really, it's pretty general and open for interpretation.

    Either way, Great Stuff.

General Commentyeah, i agree with you. it could go so many ways-- he could be talking to a lover, to himself, etc. What if he's (not necessarily the singer, but the speaker) talking to a parent?

if i used this for myself, it would be directed towards myself. i'm always moving from place to place hoping to find a fresh start.

I absolutely love when the violins and cellos come in for the first time...just before "...but running is the one thing that....."
