In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
You've come so far weary child
We can feel the ache in your bones
You've been dragging so long
They never spoke your tongue
We will shelter you
There will be no more ridicule
We will love you always
It can be this way if you come home
You were in a spin front to back
You would wonder if you were wrong
You felt lost in space
But everything is as it should
We knew this all along
We promise you
We will shelter you
There will be no more ridicule
We will love you always
It can be this way if you come home
We can feel the ache in your bones
You've been dragging so long
They never spoke your tongue
We will shelter you
There will be no more ridicule
We will love you always
It can be this way if you come home
You were in a spin front to back
You would wonder if you were wrong
You felt lost in space
But everything is as it should
We knew this all along
We promise you
We will shelter you
There will be no more ridicule
We will love you always
It can be this way if you come home

This is an incredible song. I first heard it on an episode of CSI, and after searching tirelessly for it, i finally found out what it was. To me, the song is talking about someone who just feels like they've been trying so hard for so long at life, and just can't seem to get it right, and then finds someone (or something) that accepts them. The underlying lesson is to have faith that we are all here for something ("Everything is as it should")
@big99daddy I agree it is a fantastic song, and it’s fantastic written lyrically also.
