"Your Diary" as written by Alexander Paul Kapranos Huntley, Nicholas John Mccarthy, Paul Robert Thompson and Robert Hardy....
Suddenly you'll move away from me
What more is it that I could be, if you move away from me
You on that train, I was alone in your room
When there on the floor, I saw a little black book
You left it there on the floor, open and evidence

Your diary, your diary, open and inviting me back
Your diary, your diary, open and inviting me back
(I'm back)

You couldn't say why you loved him
He's asking you why you loved him
You couldn't say why you loved him
But he gave you a list of all the reasons why he did
And you couldn't reply but you could say that you did

Your diary, your diary, open and inviting me back
Your diary, your diary, open and inviting me back
(I'm back)

He said he had lips like petals unfurling from a bud
I could have ripped page and petals, ripped to the blood
Ripped until ripping was all it was good
But I didn't and don't want you ever to read
Any diary of mine and word I may leave now

Your diary, your diary, open and inviting me back
Your diary, your diary, open and inviting me back
Your diary, your diary, your diary, open and inviting me back
(I'm back)
Your diary, your diary, your diary, open and inviting me back
(I'm back)

General CommentI just heard this last night, and its not bad. Its got the 'Franz Ferdinand' sound to it which is a good sign. The other new songs they played last night were also good, but this one sticks out in my mind.

If the rest of the songs are as good as this, the next album should be every bit as good as the first!

General CommentYeah I saw them play this live too and it was a highlight. It sounds amazing, should definitely be a future single. The guitars remind me of the bit at the end of the intro bit in 'Take Me Out'. The lyrics might be about the anger and impotence the protagonist feels about how his lover was treated in a past relationship. The diary could also be a metaphor for our tendency to constantly compare current experiences to previous ones, a 'golden age' attitude causing unhappiness in the present. Or maybe that's too deep...

General CommentI too heard this live at the 'Christmas Show' they did in Glasgow in September. Their new stuff is really good, a little bit more developed and evolved from the first album, but not so much that you think 'Why did they change?'

Cant' wait for their next album.

    It's a really good song.

General CommentWhy are the lyrics I find in "Franz Ferdinand.org" so different?

"Suddenly, you move away from me
What more is there that I can be
If you move away from me?
    You and I drawing
I was alone in your room
    When there on the floor
I saw a little black book
You left it there on the floor, open
And I opened and it is

    Your diary
It's open and inviting me back

You couldn't say why you loved him
He's asking you why you loved him
You couldn't say why you loved him
But he gave you a list
Of all the reasons why he did
    And you couldn't reply
But you could say that you did

    Your diary
It's open and inviting me back

You said he had lips like petals
    Unfurling from a bud
I could've ripped page and petals
    Ripped to the blood
    Ripped and torn, ripping
    Was all of that good?
    But I didn't and don't
    Want you ever to read
    Any diary of mine
Any word I may leave, now

    Your diary
It's open and inviting me back"

Can anyone tell me the reason?

General CommentI'm not too sure if the original lyrics are for the first 'version' of the song. When they were posted the song was going to be on the latest album (unfortunatly it ended up being a B-side), but possibly the lyrics changed slightly.

Either that or the original lyrics are wrong up there. Email them and get them to change it to the ones you posted as they are correct (apart from a few repetitions of 'your diary')

General CommentI've just checked the lyrics above (the ones frozen in fire posted) with a live version of the song at the time the lyrics were posted.

The lyrics above are actually correct for the live version of the song when it was first being sung, however since then the lyrics have been pretty much all changed (even the tune changes from the first to second version).

I'm not sure how that can be resolved, but I'm sure something can be done!
