"Heatwave" as written by and Edward Holland....
She moves the street way
A hitched up skirt, a symptom of the heatwave.
She lets go lowgrade
We can stay closed 'til 4am the next day

If it's for 5 years
I get a fantasy breeding babies in my nightmares
(My nightmares)
If she goes the street way
I get a peepshow free and a pressure drop to get laid

If you're asking, well
I've just started on my breakdown
If you need to know
I've just started on my breakdown

She moves the street way,
A pretty sweet blonde, an illusion of the heatwave
I see her legs and shoulders
And picture myself as a missionary soldier

She kicks my mouth shut,
Make me go down, take a pleasure pill, just throw up
Goin' down, down, down
He moves the street way,
Anything goes to release me from the heatwave
Release me from the heatwave

If you're asking, well
I've just started on my breakdown
If you need to know
I've just started on my breakdown

Release me from the heatwave
From the heatwave
A pretty sweet blonde, an illusion of the heatwave

General CommentThis song is obviously about Chris Corner having a heat stroke and hallucinating about attractive blonde women.

General Commenti'm not so sure about that... nothing is ever "obvious"

General Commentit sounds more like a "heatwave" is a state of extreme lust o.O

General Comment"And picture myself as a missionary soldier" -- I love that line.

Menstruation's post seems to be more plausible, but I would argue that it was a real woman, and "illusion" signifies that the heatwave is making her appear more attractive than she already is...
Accentuating her beauty, if you will

General Commenti agree with that, but you have to admit, there is a lot of sex in this song, right? and heat has plenty to do with lust, as well as plain heat. i think menstruation is way too simple for chris corner.

General CommentI think that the "heatwave" is both literal and metaphorical.

I just picture "she goes the street way" as somebody watching their blonde lover walk past their window on the street below through the (literal) heat haze, with the state of extreme lust also being the metaphorical heatwave.

General CommentI thought the bit about the babies was to be taken along with "If it's for 5 years"... maybe it's a reference to fear that a long-term relationship would lead to having kids? I say "fear" because of the reference to it being in his nightmares rather than his dreams :)

Just from the first few lines, its pretty obvious the girl he is tlaking about is a prostitute: "moves the street way" shes walking the streets at night, looking and waiting for a potential customer... See? Its rather simple when you think about it.

The whole "bredding babies in my nightmares" is because he's scared he could get her pregnent, imagine having your child to a prostitute, definately a nightmare.
"I get a peepshow free" suggests maybe he is friends or even lovers with this girl... "take the pressure pill, make me throw up" this girl is leading him down a self-destructive path, and he feels that is is going through a "breakdown".
There, doesnt that all make perfect sense? :D
