I heard a story
It's too hard to mention
I heard a thing once
I can't even say
I had a moment
Of doubtful suspension
But it's almost forgotten
It's been pulled away

By too many hands
Touching where I stand
And I can't fall
Because you'll try and catch me
Never let me go
You don't think I know
I've heard it all
And so you'll never scratch my skin

I heard a boy say
It's all my invention
A fictional statement
It's all in my head
All I can tell you
My only pretension
Was in thinking you listened
To me when I said

By too many hands
Touching where I stand
And I can't fall
Because you'll try and catch me
Never let me go
You don't think I know
I've heard it all
And so you'll never scratch my skin

I've heard your paltering and your lies
And it won't go away when I close my eyes
Do you think of me when I'm no where near
When you shut your mouth tell me what you hear
I've heard it all
I've heard it all
I've heard it

Somebody called me
A paranoid angel
From on the other
Side of the wall
You might be special
But it's too late to change now
'Cause it isn't the first time
I've heard it all
For too many years
To relieve my fears
So I'm advising you
To get away and fast
If it's my mistake
Then the blame I'll take
You're not the first
And you won't be the last

By too many hands
Touching where I stand
And I can't fall
Because you'll try and catch me
Never let me go
You don't think I know
I've heard it all
And so you'll never scratch my skin

I think she is mentally ill, and everyone is causing her more trouble by trying to keep her in line. She's saying she's heard it all, and she understands, but it's not getting through to her. Hence it will never scratch her skin. Then in addition to everyone else there is a guy who's in love with her and wants to help, but she thinks he's just like the rest. Other guys identified her as crazy and she doesn't want to go through that again. The tragedy is that he isn't, and I think on some level she knows that. She can't change now, though. It's too late.

I don't know. I love the song. Some of the lines seem to me to be about opression in belief of the truth.

I think people search for something to believe in when the find someone to idolize they take actions to keep that person around

but that persons knows these admires will iltimitely be disappointed having been through it 10 times or more

Its about being mentally unstable. About having moodswings, and a general thought telling oneself that one does not deserve what other people deserve. Its also about over analazing realtionships, and having an optimistic pessism within oneself.

"It's all my invention A fictional statement It's all in my head"

If you feel everything really intensly, others tend to tell you, that you are overreacting. But really, you are not. Everybody feels different. Some more strongly than others.

Maybe she's in a relationship, but she starts to hear rumors about the guy, or starts seeing things in him she doesn't want to be with- and now its like the relationship is being forced on her.

"I had a moment Of doubtful suspension But it's almost forgotten It's been pulled away" --she starts to get suspicious of him, but someone is controlling her, telling her to stop being "paranoid" and enjoy what she's got. The guy she's with, or someone else? Maybe both, which would explain "too many hands".

The chorus basically says she can't fall, she can't get away to make her own mistakes because there's always someone controlling her 'for her own good'... forcing her to stay in the relationship.

    My Interpretation

"too many hands Touching where I stand And I can't fall Because you'll try and catch me Never let me go You don't think I know I've heard it all And so you'll never scratch my skin"

I think that maybe it's about her not being able to do or express herself...not being able to make her own choices or mistakes without someone holding her back "cant fall because you'll try and catch me, never let me go" She may be tired of it and wont let them hurt her anymore by pulling her back from doing something she wants to do...

I think this song is about having something bad happen to you, possibly rape - "too many hands touching where I stand" - and trying to tell someone about it but they don't believe you and think you're making it up - "I heard a boy say it's all my invention" etc.

    My Interpretation

it makes me think of religion, specifically the types that like to proselytize. everyone wants to make it seem easier than it is, say that they have all the answers, that they can solve all the problems, etc.

just a few of the lyrical cues that make me think this:

"there's too many hands touching where i stand and i can't fall because you'll try and catch me, never let me go" -when things go less than perfect there will be someone to say just why their path is perfect and why you should follow them.

"wasn't thinking to listen to me when i said..." "when you shut your mouth tell me what you hear" -they believe they're right that they won't quiet down long enough to maybe hear something different, that what they believe is easy isn't so simple.

"do you think of me when i'm nowhere near" -do you really give thought to the 'fallen' when they aren't in front of you, or is that just something you use to convince me you really care?

"somebody called me a paranoid angel from on the other side of the wall" -basically they've separated themselves from the rest of the world yet they continue to claim that they have all the answers to the problem, but really they're just on the other side of the wall they've built.

"you don't think i know, i've heard it all and so you'll never scratch my skin" -pretty self-explanatory. no matter how they phrase it, she's heard all the lines before and isn't going to fall into it.

I actually think this about someone who won't trust people enough to fall in love, and all these people try to swept her off her feet but she's been hurt too many times to try. So many want her, for whatever reason.

You might be special But it's too late to change now 'Cause it isn't the first time I've heard it all For too many years To relieve my fears So I'm advising you To get away and fast If it's my mistake Then the blame I'll take You're not the first And you won't be the last

I do agree with some type of force implied, but personally, I think that possibly, she's doing something that's making her happy, but isn't good for her and making her sad when she doesn't get it (Not saying this is the actual 'addiction,' in you will, but an example being smoking.) and she's keeping it a secret from some authority (parent, nurse, ect.) so she can't be upset about it openly, only behind close doors while keeping a front that it doesn't bother her and nothing is going on. The person that she may be hiding it from might try to 'catch' her, but that would require her telling her secret.

I heard a boy say It's all my invention A fictional statement It's all in my head All I can tell you My only pretension Was in thinking you listened To me when I said

She might want to tell someone (a friend), but she might be afraid that they might not believe her or that they might not listen.

That's my own personal interpretation, anyways.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
