"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Wake up
Think fast
Three weeks have passed
We are changing
No sleep
No gas
No excuses will pass these lips
'Cause we're shaping up to be
All you wish you could have been
To write the hits and to turn their heads
And to open eyes (open your eyes)
To a brand new season
A brand new season
So show me something we haven't heard yet
But I'm not convinced and your heartless songs won't stick
But I
I'll sing you something you won't forget
For the first time I know
This is now who I am
Wake up
Think fast
Three weeks have passed these lips
'Cause we're shaping up to be
All you wish you could have been
To write the hits and to turn heads
To turn heads
And to open eyes (open your eyes)
To a brand new season
A brand new season
So show me something we haven't heard yet
But I'm not convinced and your heartless songs won't stick
But I
I'll sing you something you won't forget
For the first time I know
This is now who I am
You'll see what we mean
You'll notice when we're gone
So show me something we haven't heard yet
But I'm not convinced and your heartless songs won't stick
But I
I'll sing you something you won't forget
For the first time I know

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
I completely agree with everyone that said old school fall out boy is better then the new fall out boy. Everything from under the cork tree and down is a million times better the infinity on high. In fact, there's only like three songs from that whooole album that I really like. Same for cute is what we aim for, even though they have nothing to do with this hahaha.
I agree with all of this. (even the CIWWAF mention.)
awesome song! im surprised there is no comments on here.
I think it's Heartless songs wont stick... i duno could be either way both mean the same thing pretty much neways
is this song about someone who left the band? it sounds like a "looked what you missed out on" kind of song, but i dont know these lyrics are a little confusing
the academy is = poor mans fall out boy
I think this song is about a failure they may had to of overcome at some point with their career .. but i dont know, it isn't too clear.
These guys are such sweethearts id you meet them, and William saings SO much better acousticly. Isn't that odd? Well yeah, I should ask them next tim I meet them. But anyways, yeah i think it'sbasically like about people not believing in them, now they're on a tour that's sold out in every state. So, yeah. Bascially telling them to SHOVE IT! hah. I love this song, and all their songs.
Just so you know Meefy, Fall Out Boy is for faggots, if I wanted to listen to Blink 182 I just would.
Both dnask8 and Meefy r stupid. The Academy Is AND Fall Out Boy have their high and low points, just because there is a difference of opinions doesn't mean we have to go bashing other bands. And if dnask8 is just bashing Fall Out Boy because they went mainstream then ur a freakin poser who doesn't deserve to listen to them ne way. For all u posers out there Fall OUt Boy was good and still are good, in fact their mainstream album From Under The Cork Tree is better than the last two - and i know from listening to them.
oh and thoughts on song meanings....i think - well i'm pretty sure that this song is about The Academy Is bringing something new to the scene that wasn't there and changing the mediocrity of all the previous band who just sang hopeless things they didn't mean. OR it could be refering to their previous attempt to make it big as just The Academy (b4 the Is was added)
