I go out walkin' after midnight
Out in the moonlight
Just like we used to do
I'm always walkin' after midnight searchin' for you

I walk for miles along the highway
Well, that's just my way
Of sayin' I love you
I'm always walkin' after midnight, searchin' for you

I stop to see a weepin' willow
Cryin' on his pillow
Maybe he's cryin' for me
And as the skies turn gloomy
Night winds whisper to me
I'm lonesome as I can be

I go out walkin' after midnight
Out in the moonlight
Just hopin' you may be
Somewhere a-walkin' after midnight, searchin' for me

I stop to see a weepin' willow
Cryin' on his pillow
Maybe he's cryin' for me
And as the skies turn gloomy
Night winds whisper to me
I'm lonesome as I can be

I go out walkin' after midnight
Out in the moonlight
Just hopin' you may be
Somewhere a-walkin' after midnight, searchin' for me

General Comment:This is probably my favorite of hers. I like it more than Crazy. Both are damn good. She has a beautiful voice.

My Interpretation:"Walking after midnight" must mean wandering in metaphorical darkness, I guess. One wanders in this darkness hoping a past love is also wandering, looking to reconnect.

My Interpretation:This is country Goth at it's best. It's not stated or established in the song, but the lover she searches for, late at night, is dead, and she misses him so much that she believes that if she walks alone in the middle of the night that there is a chance that she will see his ghost.
    It is romantic and macabre.
    I love it!
