The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
It's time for the crying to stop
Cause I love you
It's time for you to grow up
I want you
And I need you
There's a hole in your soul
Where your heart used to me
All the doors are locked
And you can't find the key
There's fish in the sky
And there's birds in the sea
Cause you want me
And you need me
You're drowning from all of the tears in the sky
It's a bad dream
You can't even close your eyes
It's a bad dream
A bad dream
It's time for the burn in the sky
Cause I'm hungry
It's time for you to let it die
You're lonely
All alone
Tigers in their tanks struggle to get free
Skinny little dogs barking up the wrong tree
Snakes in the grass learn their ABCs
And you need me
And you want me
You're drowning from all of the tears in the sky
It's a bad dream
You can't even close your eyes
It's a bad dream
A bad dream
Screaming from a voice inside
Running but you cannot find
A place
To hide
From the bad dream
There's a hole in your soul
Where your heart used to me
All the doors are locked
And you can't find the key
There's fish in the sky
And there's birds in the sea
And you hate me
But you need me
You're drowning from all of the tears in the sky
It's a bad dream
You can't even close your eyes
It's a bad dream
A bad dream
Screaming from the voice inside
Trying to find a place
Inside
To hide
From the bad dream
The bad, bad
Bad, bad
Bad, bad

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
Just A Little Lovin'

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
Plastic Bag

“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
Ending a relationship and regretting it?
The song is about not being able to let go. Yes, possibly of a relationship. Who is singing on this song? It was weird to hear it on the website. Then again, I did have a different image of how this bad was.
This song is interesting. I really like it. Anyone else really like this song? How come everyone says it has something to do with letting go? I thought it was just a song about someone having a bad dream and this is the description of the bad dream.
LOL. True. LOLOLOL. Could very well be...
yup.
i think so
but then again Jakalopes song are really confusing and deep. If u truly feel her tho, its clear to you....
I am not sure if I'm ready to call Katie the next big thing. Personally, I don't think her involvement with the band is that big. She just helped give the lyrics a female perspective (along with her input and voice). So I'm not going to call her the next industrial god, although, if she steps up her game, she could be crowned the industrial goddess.
But I know for a fact that she didn't do the original lyrics. RAVE did that. Rave fyi, is Dave O.
She's Canadain, which is cool, cuz so am I. From Calgary.
March the 4th, Jakalope plays in Toronto! Lovely.
you live in Calgary? kool i live close to there. i havent really listened to this song yet, even though i have had the cd for about a month now. but the first time i bought jakalope, it didnt come with a jakalope cd but some band called the prodigy. now im trying to get rid of that cd by selling it to someone. luckly the second time i bought jakalope, it came with the right cd:)
