I've got something that my baby wants
And I've got something that my baby wants
And she's got something that I want too
Baby and I are through

I've been down to the bottom
With a bad, bad man
Down to the bottom babe
With a bad, bad man

Lay me down with your gentle hand

Well he said this darkness, it was untrue
And first he said this darkness, darlin',
It was untrue
And that there was no light to be found in you

But I know, darlin', that that's not true

And I had a dream so black
That I could not tell
Oh, honey, I had a dream so dark
That I could not tell

But I know that's just as well

And I don't know, babe,
Just where you've been
I don't know, darlin',
Just where you've been

But I've hung myself heavy here
Babe, I don't know where the hell I am

I thought that man, babe,
He might have something that I need
I thought that man, darlin',
He might have something that I need

But he had no anger
For you or for me
And, babe, I swear
That man never even knew I was here

Some of these friends of mine
How I miss them so
Good Lord, these sweet friends of mine
How I miss them so

But some of these, others beg
Well they're driving me around
On some cold, dark, and strange
And deathly roads

Take me down to your river
I want to see how it runs
Down to your river, darlin',
I want to know just how it runs

But if that man
Waits on the path
Then I know for good
That I'm done

And I got a feeling
That man, he's just begun

General CommentTruly beautiful and sad song. Must be about drugs.

General Commentwhy must it be about drugs?

I can agree it's beautiful, though I don’t think it’s necessarily about drugs though. I think he is either talking about another man that some how got in-between his relationship with a girl, Or the other man he is talking about him self, The actions he will or doesn’t know to take ..with a girl involved. Though I suppose it could be anything for anyone, but I don’t think of drugs when I hear this song. More self sabotage.

General CommentWell, that sounds pretty clear to me:

But some of these, others beg
    Well they're driving me around
On some cold, dark, and strange
    And deathly roads

Take me down to your river (...)

    But if that man
    Waits on the path
    Then I know for good
    That I'm done

General CommentI am pretty sure the verse goes like this:

    But he had no anchor
    For you or for me
    And, babe, I swear
That man never even known the sea

General Commentdark and haunting, but the big idea of it all is so beautiful. there's so many misguided truths in this world and all he knows the truth is really in her.
"that there was no light to be found in you
But I know, darlin', that that's not true"

there's a sense of fear because this path may be dangerous, but damn dont we know it's worth it.

General CommentI love the lyrics from this song which are lifted from a mediocre Bob Dylan song from the late 70s.

(see: "Baby, Stop Crying" -- track 4 from 1978 album "Street Legal")

    ex:

"You been down to the bottom with a bad man, babe"

    and

"Go down to the river, babe..."

-- it's always great to hear the influence of great poets on future great poets.

Lyrically this one definitely outshines Dylan's "Baby, Stop Crying".
