Maybe different but remember
Winters warm there you and I
Kissing whiskey by the fire
With the snow outside
And when the summer comes
In the river
Swims at midnight
Shiver cold
Touch the bottom
You and I
With muddy toes

Stay or leave
I want you not to go
But you should
It was good as good goes
Stay or leave
I want you not to go
But you did

Wake up naked drinking coffee
Making plans to change the world
While the world is changing us
It was good, good love
You used to laugh under the covers
Maybe not so often now
But the way I used to laugh with you
Was loud and hard

Stay or leave
I want you not to go
But you should
It was good as good goes
Stay or leave
I want you not to go
But you did

So what to do
With the rest of the day's afternoon hey
Isn't it strange how we change
Everything we did
Did I do all that I should

That I could of done

Remember we used to dance
And everyone wanted to be
You and me
I want to be too
What day is this
Besides the day you left me
What day is this
Besides the day you went

So what to do
With the rest of the day's afternoon hey
Isn't it strange how we change
Everything we did
Did I do all that I could

Remember we used to dance
And everyone wanted to be you and me
I want to be too
What day is this
Besides the day you went babe
What day is this

this has to be my favorite song on the some devil cd. i never really paid that much attention to it until one day it came on my ipod and it put me in a trance. there is no other song i have ever heard that describes the moments following a break up better than this one.

Remember we used to dance And everyone wanted to be You and me I want to be too What day is this Besides the day you left me What day is this Besides the day you went

So what to do With the rest of the day's afternoon hey Well isn't it strange how we change Everything we did

it's like that moment the person walks out the door you realize that everything you have done since you have been with them has revolved around them. you are lost. what do you do if you don't have them? you have to re-learn how to live your life alone. it epitimizes the feeling of loneliness and how much your significant other plays a part in your life.

BeYourOwnGirl....I agree with you that this is definately a great song on Dave's solo album! While i can certainly see your take on the song, I tend to see it about a guy who's wife/girlfriend has a terminal illness of some sort. It seems like he is remembering all the good times they shared together and while he doesnt want to let her go, he realizes it would be best to end her pain and suffering....just my take though....Every song speaks differently to different people.....Peace

I see this as BeYourOwnGirl does. I like EndlessReverie's interpretation too, but for me, this is a poetic summation of breakups. My favorite line: "Remember we used to dance And everyone wanted to be You and me I want to be too" This gives me such a visual image of a happy, perfect couple, and the later heartbreak of remembering such a moment.

"Well isn't it strange how we change Everything we did" That line is so poignant too- indeed, after someone is gone, their absence is felt in everything.

Next time I have a breakup, I won't listen to this song for a while, because it's so good I don't want to associate with anyone in particular.

This song was the EXACT feeling that I had rushing through my body at the time my girlfriend and I broke up. She said the same thing, because it wasn't that we didn't love each other... we just needed time alone so that we could see what it's like, cuz we'd been together for 14 months. I still miss her, but we still talk all the time. So the songs seems like he still loves her, but knows that she has to go, so he'll let her go and be happy, because her happiness means more than his own. This is my opinion, don't trash me, it's my interpretation.

Oddly enough, I am having some relationship issues that may put us very far from each other.

I put the cd on to listen to gravedigger and heard this song. The chorus is fitting so into my current predicament that I almost cried listening to it.

"Stay or leave I want you not to go But you should"

I want him to stay here with me, but he is unhappy with his career and he needs to go back to college. Whether it hurts me, and whether I want him not to leave, he should and I wont hold him back.

I just ran across this song on myspace and was blown away. I agree with everyone saying it's about a breakup. Im going through tough times with my girlfriend and this song is just so easy to relate to right now.

i agree that this song is about a breakup, but for me it will always remind me of leaving barcelona. i discovered this song my last few days in bcn after spending an amazing summer there in an apartment with 5 awesome roommates. the song just completely captivated me, and i listened to it on repeat as i packed my bags, said my goodbyes, and for most of my long flight back to the states. it just seemed so fitting at the time, not wanting to leave something so perfect with someone so perfect, but knowing you have to move on. i especially love the lines "remember we used to dance/and everyone wanted to be/ you and me", it just reminds me of going out and dancing and having the best time with my friends. such a beautiful song.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
