One last kiss one only
Then I'll let you go
Hard for you I've fallen
But you can't break my fall
I'm broken don't break me
When I hit the ground

Some devil some angel
Has got me to the bones
You said always and forever
Now I believe you baby
You said always and forever
Is such a long and lonely time

Too drunk and still drinking
It's just the way I feel
It's alright
Is what you told me
Cause what we had was so beautiful
Feel heavy like floating
At the bottom of the sea

You said always and forever
Now I believe you baby
You said always and forever
Is such a long and lonely time

Some devil is stuck inside of me
I can not set it free
I wish, I wish I was dead and you're breathing
Just so that you could know
Some angel is stuck inside of me
But I can not set you free

You said always and forever
Now I believe you baby
You said always and forever
Such a long and lonely time

Stuck inside of me

I think it could be breathing or grieving. If it says "breathing", then the meaning is just a little more hidden. I mean, I think he's trying to say I wish I died so you could know how it feels to really lose me. Either that or- I feel as though you died, so I want you to know what it feels like.

This song is awesome. The lyrics are a little bit simple, but with the music and Dave's voice, it becomes really moving. For me at least.

I thought this song was about a breakup until it got to these lyrics "I wish, I wish I was dead and you breathing" then I thought maybe someone he loved had died. I dunno. Great song.

I believe the actual words there are "you were grieving."

This song should come with a warning to never listen to it when you're breaking up with someone. I cried for three hours straight while playing it over and over.

i've had the same circumstance as everyone else concerning when this song hit their deepest feelings - over a break up.

a clear indication of this "break up" scenario in the song is "you said always and forever" which, when i heard this, i pictured myself saying the same thing almost echoing it like he does in the song when it happened to me.

the only thing is, i originally thought it was meant to be about his sister and her death. how he was grieving during that time. that he was battling between acceptance (hence the devil and angel references).

but that's the thing with dave's songs, they mean so many different things to so many different people.

It's a bit confusing. The first verse seems to make it like its about a breakup. But the second doesn't. But I've always viewed this song as being about the death of a spouse, though not a surprised death. Maybe its just a song, maybe its Dave lamenting on how his life will be if his wife ever dies.

The second verse, to me, makes it about death. "always and forever" are the vows you take (basically. everyone means the same thing) that is not taken completely seriously by the character. Until the death happens and now the character understands that he will never love again and how long forever is and how lonely they will be.

Also what keys death is that character wishes they were dead and the other breathing, though all other references to the other are past not present tense. If they wish the other breathing then the other is dead. I think the wish is guilt that the character never expressed (or felt as though they didn't) how much they loved the other person.

The devil and the angel or the 2 people. The character views themselves as bad or having done bad things where as the other was the good that infused with the character. Thats why they want to take the devil out, but can't and have the angel inside and won't let it go.

This is one of those songs where I really don't care what the meaning is. It's just a beautiful song...

Definitly about a lover that has passed. She said always and forever, but that meaning wasn't the same as when she died, which caused it to hit hard. "He" lost her and now he knows what forever is. He can't let go of the love he had for her and it's with him forever. Some devil, some angel, feels a burden from the love (devil), but loves the feeling of what thinking of her gives him (angel). Broken heart, with no healing.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
