"Inner Glow" as written by and Beth Meikos Justin Furstenfeld....
I'm like a storm cloud eager when to go wild
Calm again
I ask permission for the wrong to win
Drop the bomb and get your story out and get it on
In a haze, the beginning of your days
Going to fall down
Got to get back up, but at your own pace
Get to fill your cup and find the way
Out of your own maze
Yeah boy, what you said now!

And hide the rule book throw it in the waste
Look strong
Like you belong, cause you do belong
Whether right or wrong, you belong

Cause, I'm on your side, if you fail, at least you tried
To keep your aching, celebrating,
Wonder making heart alive, yeah.
And pride, don't keep it all inside
Don't keep your aching, celebrating,
Wonder making heart alone
Write your own song.

What ever happened to our inner glow?
What ever happened to the song, the soul, the me, I used to know?
What ever happened to my radio?
What ever happened to my song?
It is my song.

So here's a preview. shove it under old/new
Or call it rock, or pop, or Bach, or fuck
Goddamn! Where did we go wrong?
Now there's a category for every song

Yeah, we only want to sing when we want to
Yeah, we only want a dream we can flaunt to
Yeah, we only want to fly by the side, making love
To the rhythm, be a Jeckyl and a Hyde

Yeah, we only want a field we can run through
Yeah, we only want a beat we can drum to
Yeah, we only want to fly by the side, making love
To the rhythm, be a Jekyll and a Hyde

So stride, if you fail, at least you tried
To keep your aching, celebrating
Wonder making heart alive
And pride, don't keep it all inside
Don't keep your aching, celebrating
Wonder making heart alone
Write your own song.

What ever happened to our inner glow?
What ever happened to the song, the soul, the me, I used to know?
What ever happened to my radio?
What ever happened to that song?
It is my song.

Gonna wake up strong
Ya we're all gonna wake up strong

General Commenti dont know about all of the song but to me the chorus and last half of the song mean that we shouldnt be looking into other peoples music to find meaning to our life and to write our own song that could be way more personal than anything anyone else wrote.

General CommentI got the meaning of this right away... it's brilliant, really.... He's comparing music in general to life

Yeah boy... What you said now!

--Basically when your young your doing you own thing, learning how everything works in life. getting knocked down, and getting up again...--

And hide the rule book throw it in the waste
    Look strong
Like you belong... Cause you do belong
Whether right or wrong... You belong

--Teenage years, you don't care about rules, you just belong, wether your right or wrong.--

Cause, I'm on your side... If you fail, at least you tried
    To keep your aching, celebrating,
Wonder making heart alive. . Yeah.
And pride... Don't keep it all inside
    Don't keep your aching, celebrating,
    Wonder making heart alone...
    Write your own song.

--if you fail at life, at least your alive, you lived through everything it threw at you. have pride, don't get down, and put it to good use.--

What ever happened to our inner glow?
What ever happened to the song, the soul, the me, I used to know?
What ever happened to my radio?
What ever happened to my song?
    It is my song.

-- basically, whatever happened to the person I used to be so long ago?--

So here's a preview. shove it under old/new
Or call it rock, or pop, or Bach, or fuck...
Goddamn! Where did we go wrong?
Now there's a category for every song

-- Take this how you like, I think he's saying, hey your you, even though nowadays everyone is thrown into a catagory.. emo, punk, goth, whatever.--

To the rhythm, be a Jeckyl and a Hyde

-- We all want to go along with the crowd and be on everyones side, being a Jeckyl and a Hyde, but you have to write you own song, be your own person. --

    Brilliant!

General CommentThis is a song that should be a global anthem hehe ^^
they talk about ppl who become just like everyone else without "using" their uniqueness.
It's about doing things cz we r supposed to or because others do the same.. We lose our "inner glow" or else we lose our "real" self into the chaos of this world..they urge us to "write our own song" to do what we like what makes us happy .. somehting that we dont do just cz the mass does it...
our inner glow is in our soul and we keep it hidden so blue october just tell us that we need to get that thing out cz it damn worths it ! =)

General CommentI think it's telling us all to be ourselves and don't let things get us down, because we're all special and we belong, and people care about us whether we realize it or not.

General Commenti think he is telling everybody that artist that they shouldn't have one genre. justin has many. In the song overweight, its kinda like a rap song but in into the ocean its kinda has some blues..

General CommentSuch a good song, great lyrics, beat tune.

I think basically the song is conveying that you are in charge of your own life, you choose what happens. A lot of people base their happiness on others, and just go along with the crowd. You don't need to fit into a certain label.

Write your own song, you're writing the story of your life, and it'll turn out however you want it to.

Song MeaningI'm pretty sure this song ticked a lot of Texas radio stations off...or, rather, the sole owner of most Texas stations, the omnipotent ClearChannel. Like Time Petty's "Last D.J.", this song challenges the categorization of music and the foolishness of only listening to "the beat we can drum to." Blue October began as a Texas band, and they fought long and hard to get where they are today. "History For Sale" was their breakout album, thanks to Justin Furstenfeld's brilliant songwriting and the hit single "Calling You", and I think "Inner Glow" is a very bold statement about the whole situation. Everything was sounding the same at the time he wrote that song, even more so than it does now. It's a eulogy to radio and a hope that it will someday improve thanks to those who write their own songs.

General Commenti remember being very struck the first time i heard this song, stumbled on it again and tried to figure out why it means so much to me

i agree with all the comments about comparing life to music, but only after reading the comments. Initially, I took this as an anthem to individuality. You don't have to be anything. Be what you want and 'write your own song,' live your life the way you want and the way it makes you happy. That's all we can want out of life.
