"Books Written for Girls" as written by and Tracyanne Campbell....
You can compliment me on the style of my hair
Give me marks out of ten for the clothes that I wear
You probably thought I had more upstairs
I disappoint you
I can see through
Your perfect smile

He likes to read books written for girls
He prides himself on being a man of the world
In the darkest of places he gets his thrills
He will disappoint you
If see through
His perfect smile

Now I think separation is okay
You're no star to guide me anyway
You only wanted me to play
A fool
Play by your rules

Now my door has swollen from the rain
God knows we'll never see her face again
People get shattered in many ways
They can disappoint you
If you through
Their perfect smiles

Now I think separation is okay
'Cause you're no star to guide me anyway
You only wanted to me to play
A fool
Play by your rules

A fool
Play by your rules

General Commentshe liked a guy at first but then she sees that he's really just shallow and not who she thought he was.

General CommentIts about two people who at first fall for each other then on closer inspection they see past what every one else see's and realises they arent the people they wanted.

General CommentReminds me of a boy I know. Likes to say he's a feminist and pretend he's a suave intellectual, but really judges girls just as harsh as the rest. "Books written for girls," indeed...

General CommentI love the lines "You probably thought I had more upstairs/I disappoint you." For some reason Traceyanne's really restrained singing style make those lyrics sound really badass. Like, the guy judges her as stupid or shallow but she's aware of that, and she talks about it so calmly that she comes out sounding like the winner.
So I guess it's that the guy thinks he's really sensitive and understands women, but he actually is sexist even though he thinks of himself as being so feminist. The lines I mention above make me think of when guys criticize a girl's intelligence or talent or something, and they're judging her more harshly than they would judge a guy but they pretend it has nothing to do with gender. So it makes me think Traceyanne didn't do what the guy wanted her to do, and his response was to tell her that she wasn't smart/intellectual enough.

General Comment"you probably thought i'd had more upstairs"

by upstairs, i thought it either meant breast, brains, or maybe both because the way the 2 lines before it makes it sounds like it's still about looks and therefore breasts, while the song title "books" makes me think brains

General Commenti think that some guy led some girl on. and she was really into him and took in everythin he said. but he just played her. so now she feels horrible. she feels like shes not good enough "you probably thought i had more upstairs" or "i disappoint you" she gets hurt by it and concludes that he shouldnt be the one for her "your no star to guide me anyway" and also feels like a fool for being played....
    i dont know

General CommentDearjulianna got it right. Its pretty sarcastic about boys who are all into the right books and music and ideas, but then just turn out to be the same as everyone else.

Even though it sounds totally sad, I dont see it as tracyanne moping around after a break-up or anything, its pretty scathing in parts.
