General Comment'The Metamorphosis' by Franz Kafka is about a man named Gregor Samsa who wakes up one day to find out he is a roach. Later, he's found dead in his room.

General Commentyeah, I read that story a few years ago. pretty flipping depressing I have to say. to expand on ames' explanation, Gregor's family flips when he turns into a giant bug and they start treating him very cruelly until he eventually dies of "loneliness". I think the song is quite a witty response to Kafka's theme. I think the fact that it is so short really drives home the simplicity of the song's argument.
