I painted a picture of you on the back of my eyelids
So that, even when I blink, I won’t lose sight of you
But the hand was quicker than the eye once again
Selfish, you paved crimson roads through plains of skin
Without a word, you set a hush to your lungs
This is a silence that will never be golden
You lay in stillness, but your sleeping eyes are open
I lie in wait, eyes closed and screaming

Wake up
Don’t go to sleep, I’m nothing without you
Don’t go
Don’t leave me here, I need you with me
Wake up
I don’t want to have to miss you…

And the letter read:
“I know you can‘t help it, but try not to miss me.”
You didn’t sleep alone, I laid there with you
I’ll never open my eyes again
“Breathe for me. Breathe for me.”
Wake up…

I know this song has to do with the death of the best friend. I believe the lead singer wrote this song in what he witnessed of his best friend's death. All I know is that whenever they played this song in concert, they started crying. It's really sad and it makes you appreciate your best friends a bit more.

This song is by far my favourate song, and has been for years since i heard it.

From my understanding of it. I believe it is a story about a boy (if you can say that) promising to always be by his friends side, to never lose sight of her. Then something drastic must of occured in her life, the boy "blinked" and ignored her signs of plead, and she ended up suiciding.

It then goes on to the boy being in denial; exepting what has happened, but rather trying to avoid it, "laying next to his deceased friend, eyes closes and screaming" He then goes further into it more explaining he is worthless without his friend and attempts to try and "wake" her up, not wanting this on his concious but of course failing.

The letter the girl left then explains that it is not his fault, and to not miss him, even though that may sound rediculous to him.

The song finally goes back to the boy being in denial again about the death of his loved one. "you didnt sleep alone I laid there with you" also may suggest that his friend didnt go through her hard times alone, but with him?

"breath for me, breath for me" Finally he's realising his friend is dead. and attempting to "wake her"

The last line then "wake up..." is his final plead to his friend in desperation. He's asked continously for her to "wake up" and he has not succeeded, this final plead is the boy giving up, with his last hope for her to come back to him.

I really cannot understand Matthew during the song when he is supposedly singing...

And the letter read: “I know you can‘t help it, but try not to miss me.”

Hell, I don't even know if thats what hes really saying! Can anyone else understand that part? Are there two different versions of the song?

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
