"Dancing dirt into the snow" as written by and Melissa Morrison Higgins....
Alone you find yourself just hanging, and to fill the hole you cling to all that seems, to hide the little girl that crying, underneath the rage that you let others see.

'Cause you're dancing dirt into the snow
While others look at you on show.
You're dancing dirt into the snow
While all around you people grow
And watch you bleed.
And watch you bleed.

So now you look at me, eyes wooden.
An anchor through your head; crimson for disguise.
An opal for a wound you carry, fairy lights of pleading someone look at me.

'Cause you're dancing dirt into the snow
While others look at you on show.
You're dancing dirt into the snow
While all around you people grow
And watch you bleed.
And watch you bleed.

The more you push through broken glass, the thicker it becomes.
And the more you turn on broken worlds, the sooner you will need.
The more you push through broken glass, the thicker it becomes.
And the more you turn on broken worlds, the sooner you will need…
A gun.

'Cause you're dancing dirt into the snow
While others look at you on show.
You're dancing dirt into the snow
While all around you people grow.

General Commenti think the dancing dirt into the snow part refers to the ruining of something as pure as snow?

General CommentI think its about an insecure person that she was close to or someone who was very deeply hurt and suffering a kind of depression. And because of this they tend to block others out and put on this tough face. however, i think missy knew the person before they became like this and is trying to explain that she can see that they are hurting and almost going backwards.
the dancing dirt into the snow i think refers to not being happy and maybe trying to be rid of the snow as its a sign of change?!
I'm not sure if i'm on the right track but thats what i get out of it.

General CommentI agree with LoveThyEnemy, it is a song about someone suffering from a mental illness. The dancing dirt into the snow i think refers to the person being reactive to their problem and not being able to help themselves but rather pushing everyone away and making things worse for themselves. Everyone around them can see the pain and suffering the person is going through but cannot help. The person needs to help themselves by seeking help. Hehe, sounds a bit like i've had someone like that in my life. Sad song, fits so strongly to my experience.

General CommentWe all do this every day, and it's a crying shame. At 4 in the morning go outside, QUIET ISN'T IT, but extremly beautiful (you'll see why). Then six hours later our lives are anarchy compared to that beautiful silence. God Bless ox

General CommentOthers see you as agressive and negetive but when you get home you cry alone in your room.

You cry out for help, for attension, look at me, but they continue on with their lives or sit back and just watch.

"The more you puch thru broken glass the thicker it becomes" - The more you try to help yourself the harder it becomes.
You try so hard and try again until you can't take it anymore: "And the more you turn on broken worlds, the sooner you will need…
    A gun."

General Commenti just want to post that i think this song is about someone using anger to hide the fact that they are actually upset. it is also about them desperately wanting attention. alot of missy's songs seem to have a theme of depression. and the metaphors used...
eyes wooden: id bet my life this mean eyes dry because the person is refusing to cry.
"anchor...disguise": i think the crimson anchor thru the head is symbolic of violence and anger, and once again its saying this person is using it to hide.

    that is all

I don't think the song is about sexual abuse, but i think the girl in the narrative she tells was at some point. She feels dirty... clumsy... watched and all her movements picked to pieces by people not necessarily out for her best interests. Dancing dirt into the snow suggest that although she is disturbing something so pristice, innocent and untouched (like what may have happened to her) she's not doign anything bad. She's not abusing anything, she's dancing.

When i first statred thinking that, i thought "well perhaps dancing dirt inot the snow is a bad thing".. Well i don't anymore. She's dancing and expressed feelings that are positive, and the snow have the footprints and markings that remember that feeling.

General CommentMost of Missy Higgins songs are pretty clear on the first time I listen to them. Or maybe it's just that I make my own interpretations pretty quickly.
This one to me is about a girl who has made a cover around herself, denying help from others, refusing to let them see what she feels.
It sounds like a girl is lashing out at anyone who is offering help.
She feels like she's on show to the world, like she's being judged. Though she shows her anger to hide her own misery and loneliness, it's as though people can see through her disguise despite her desperate efforts.
There is a hint that she's stuck in one place and she's frustrated. Maybe she's hasn't let go of something, or hasn't gotten over it whilst everyone else is moving on or has delt with it.
It is not about a mental illness. It's a feeling that a lot of people expirience.
