"Holy Water" as written by Kenny Alphin, Vicky Mcgehee, John D. Rich and Jeffrey E. ...
Somewhere there's a stolen halo,
I used to watch her wear it well,
Everything would shine,
Wherever she would go,
But looking at her now you'd never tell

Someone ran away with her innocence,
A memory she can't get out of her head,
And I can only imagine,
What she's feelin' when she's prayin',
Kneelin' at the edge of her bed

And she says take me away,
Then take me farther,
Surround me now,
And hold, hold, hold me like holy water,
Holy water

She wants someone to call her angel,
Someone to put the light back in her eyes,
She's looking through the faces,
And unfamiliar places,
She needs someone to hear her when she cries

And she says take me away,
Then take me farther,
Surround me now,
And hold, hold, hold me like holy water

She just needs a little help,
To wash away the pain she's felt,
She wants to feel the healin' hands,
Of someone who understands

And she says take me away,
Then take me farther,
Surround me now,
And hold, hold, hold me

She says take me away,
Then take me farther,
Surround me now,
And hold, hold, hold me like holy water
Like holy water
Like holy water
Like holy water

General CommentIt's about one of their sisters, but what exactly happened to her?

General Commenti can relate to this song so well, especially the line "she needs someone to hear her when she cries". i try to be so strong to everyone, but at night, when it's just me and God, i can't help but break...
it's about a girl who used to be a sweet, innocent girl, but something happened to her, and now she can't see past the pain. the line "someone ran away with her innocence, a memory she can't get out of her head..." is so awesome.

General CommentBut with their ballad, "Holy Water," Big & Rich tackled a more serious subject.

"She wants someone to call her angel/ Someone to put the light back in her eyes/She's looking through the faces/ The unfamiliar places/ She needs someone to hear her when she cries."

Both men have seen sisters survive abusive relationships and said this song was inspired by women who endure violence.

General CommentYeah the whole abusive relationship thing is prominant throughout the whole song. At first I thought it was about a woman who was raped since "someone ran away with her innocence" but they did say something about abusive relationships. Good song.

General CommentI agree that this song could be about abuse. Really, it's how you take it. I can relate to this because last year, I lost a lot of my innocence. I tried drugs. I tried drinking. I got into a really bad relationship. I snuck out and got busted by the cops. When all of that happens, you do feel like your innocence has been taken from you. I think it's about a girl like that. Rumors get spread and all but you never are the same and yeah, you do act strong in front of everyone else but when you're alone, you bust out crying, letting the tears roll down your face. Nobody hears you and if they do, that don't help you. They leave you to your own devices.

General CommentIt seems, to me, like this song is about a girl who gets raped. "To wash away the pain she's felt" should be taken literally. But that's just my personal opinion.

General Commentthis song perfectly describes my life. i try and stay strong when everyones around and not let them see how i really feel about my life, but the second everyone is gone i just can't hold it in any more and just break down. I think it's describing a girl who grew up and got caught up in some not so good circumstances. wether it be a relationship or the choices she made. i just am thankful a song like this came out. it's helped a lot in my life

General CommentWhat amuses me is that this song may be about somebody's experience with someone from their first popular song. Some horny "cowboy" coming and "running away with her innocence."

General CommentThis song made me cry the first time i heard it. The lyric "Someone ran away with her innocence a memory she can't get out of her head" relates to my life rather well i was raped this past summer and i felt someone had just took my innocence and ran away with it and i couldnt get it out of my head and the pain i felt i tried so hard to be strong but everynight all alone i just wished someone would hold me and hear me cry.
