This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.
Lately days all seem the same since I lost my brain
Golden nights will see you through
Darker days need glue
How can I find what's right
In truth our love was the night
What's the point to you?
Goodbye wonder, Goodbye brain
This life is insane
No one here gets out alive
Not for life you'd like
How can I find what's right
The truth is our lives were shite
What's the point to you?
Come down, down, down
We have the only gack in town
Understand that it's here that I'm coming from
If I'm wrong or I'm right
Maybe soon we'll find peace in another one
Say goodnight
Eyes of black and lips of grey
When do I get my say?
Hard to come and easy go
Is the life I know
How can I find what's right
The truth is our lives were shite
What's the point to you?
Come down, down, down
We have the only gack in town
Understand that its here that I'm coming from
If I'm wrong or I'm right
Maybe soon we'll find peace in another one
Say Goodnight
Understand that its here that I'm coming from
I don't mind if you're right
Maybe now I'll find peace in another world
Andy goodnight

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
if my memory serves me correctly, this song is also about the 2 singers and their choice to abort their child 'andy.' very, very sad song. but escaflowne, you are sadly mistaken if you think this is one of the worst songs off hate. it is one of the best songs off this album.
I can't believe no ones commented this song yet, its amazing. Great song to listen to when you're in a shite mood. I think its generally about life being hard, how our only escape is the inevitable (death)
Agreed. I think it's one of the greatest Delgados songs. I believe it's about life and relationships crumbling under the weight of drug addiction (gack). Hence their love was the night since all that they shared was the drugs. Yet, as with all great Delgados songs, optimism shines through at the end with 'I'll find peace in another world'
really, one of the worst songs of Hate. :/
Pretty sure it's about the child as "We have the only gak in town" comes from the Dr Seuss kids book "One Fish Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish"
Good call bellenduos on the Dr. Seuss reference...
For some reason, this whole album reminds me of the science fiction from the 50's - 70's I love so much, weird, and I really have no idea what that correlation means.
Understand that it's here that I'm coming from If I'm wrong or I'm right Maybe soon we'll find peace in another one Say goodnight
Understand that it's here that I'm coming from I don't mind if you're right Maybe soon I'll find peace in another world Andy goodnight
These last two chorus are slightly different as you can see ("If I'm wrong or I'm right" -> "I don't mind if you're right"), ("Say goodnight" -> "Andy goodnight")...
The last chorus should read "Maybe NOW I'll find a peace in another world" not "Maybe SOON" as the other chorus' list.
An interview did confirm that "gack" referred to the Dr. Seuss quote, which was about a game children played. They also said the song is about "a section of society where children are denied a childhood." This sounds to me less like the abortion idea than about a situation of poverty and crime.
In a literal sense, there's a clear implication of death. "Lips of gray" describes a corpse, and phrases like "our lives were shite" suggest that he knew the person for a long time. I believe he's mourning the death of a brother or childhood friend.
