I met her at the EOD
She sank her dew claws into me

We stepped out to watch the tide come in
She said a little swim would do some wonders for your skin
I shed my old self, slipped into the sea

One glance was all it took
She gave me the Innsmouth look
(x2)

I dig her batrachian lips
Her bulbous eyes and scaly hips

She's got secrets but they'll soon be mine
Oh, Father Dagon smiles upon me from the bas-relief
And something's fishy down at Devil Reef

One glance was all it took
She gave me the Innsmouth look
(x2)

Obed was a sailor
He sailed the 7 seas
He made love to the fish
He made love to the fish

He made love to the fishies
(repeat ad nauseam)

One glance was all it took
She gave me the Innsmouth look

General CommentThis song is a sly little parody of the Lovecraft tale 'Shadow over Innsmouth'. The protagonist meets a compelling gal at the 'Esoteric Order of Dagon' and falls under the spell of the 'Innsmouth Look'. In the story many/most people from Innsmouth are actually the children of Hybrid breeding between humans and 'Deep Ones' (lovecraft's creepy submarine servants of Dagon). When they reach a certain age they start developing the 'Innsmouth Look' as their Black Lagoon nature starts to gain ascendence. In the song it's implied that someone can 'get' the Innsmouth look and partake of their 'secrets'.

General Comment"The Innsmouth Look" is actually a double entendre. Not only does it refer to the appearance of deep one hybrids from HP Lovecraft's tale, but also to giving someone "the look (of love)."

Link(s)Turns out this song isn't based directly on Lovecraft's work but on Derleth's "The Fisherman at Falcon Point", where the title character indeed becomes a Deep One without being descended from one, and where the Deep Ones are first described as "batrachian". crypt-of-cthulhu.com/…
