"The Getaway" as written by and Julian C./michael Bunetta....
Here I am again talking to myself sitting at a red light
Both hands on the wheel, how am I supposed to feel, so much running through my mind
First you want to be free, now you say you need me, giving mixed signals and signs
It's so hard to let you in, thinking you might slam the breaks again

[Chorus]
Put the pedal down, heading outta town, gotta make a getaway
The traffic in my brain's driving me insane, this is more than I can take
You tell me that you love me first
Then throw your heart into reverse
I've gotta get away

I can't keep coming back to you every time you're in the mood
To whisper something sweet in my ear
It's so hard to move on, 'cause every time I think you're gone
You show up in my rear view mirror

Is this just a detour, 'cause I gotta be sure that you really mean what you say
It's so hard to let you in, thinking you might slam the breaks again

[Chorus]

To a place where I can be redefined
Where you're out of sight, and you're out of mind
But the truth is I can't even say goodbye

Here I am again talking to myself sitting at a red light
Both hands on the wheel, how am I supposed to feel, so much running through my mind

[Chorus]

General CommentI really like this song...I mean it's obvious what it's about but it just gives you the weird feeling in your stomach when you're about to go do something you might regret. Wait.. that's prolly just me...

General CommentCorrection to the lyrics...in the chorus, it's "put the [i]pedal[/i] down," not paddle. It goes along with all the other metaphors in the song comparing driving to relationships.

General CommentI already can see the video for this-she drives a car, kisses a boy, the end.

Even though i cant stand her as a person, but none the less, very catchy song.

General CommentM theaory on this song is she's a girl thats confused she loves this ex boyfriend but he keeps hurting her. He tells her he loves her whenever he wants something and she gets all confused and once she falsl for his little trapt he tosses her away. So she feels that she needs to getaway...
I think that's what it means cauz i was in one of thoses situations and i feel that's what it means. I'm not a big fan of hilary duff but i love this song.. i think if they made this music video she'd probably be in a car and when she drives she sees couple and like memories of everything go in her head that's my opinion... but i dunno if it's right

General Commentshe`s comparing her love life to driving in a car..basically, she falls in love with a guy and vice versa; that`s how you get together right? but then he falls for someone else eventually..but he works his charm and is together with her again, making her think he`s learned his lesson, but he hasn`t. and she jumps back down into reality and realizes he`s just playing with her heart. and she`s got to getaway from him.
