"Outside" as written by and Joseph Donald Mascis Jr.....
I've been away too long
I've been a freak
On the other side
Everything turned out wrong
Wait 'till we meet
I won't know where to hide
Fenced inside it's over, done
Just to be there, said i'd won
And I'm not the only one
Who'll run, who'll run
Outside (6x)
I tend to think too much
I've been insane
I'll take another ride
I've been a little shy
I've been too vain
On the other side

Everybody took my turn
I don't know why I can't learn
No surrender I won't learn
I'll squirm, I'll squirm
Outside (6x)

Where 'ya goin' baby?
I think we've been in this way too long
On the other side
(Guitar solo)

I've been away too long
I've been a waste
On the other side
Everything turned out wrong
I've got no taste
On the other side
I've been away too long
I've been away too long
On the other side

General CommentFirst of all, I love this song. It's one of, if not my number one, favorite song by J Mascis + The Fog, the last song on their new(ish) Free So Free album. I think the whole idea of "Outside" and "On the other side" is him being single (i.e. can't get a date or can't keep up a relationship, mostly the latter). Like he's "On the other side" of where lots of people are (with a bf/gf).

    Line by line analysis:

"Just to be there, said i'd won"; kind of like he doesn't care too much about the relationship but just bragging rights.

    "Everybody took my turn
    I don't know why I can't learn
    No surrender I won't learn"

He always waits too long and loses her.

"I'll take another ride" probably means he's ready for another relationship."

    "Where 'ya goin' baby?
I think we've been in this way too long
    On the other side"

    Pretty self explanatory.

This is an awesome song, especially the two main guitar riffs, as well as the solo. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find guitar tabs for it, so if anybody could find me some it would be appreciated.
