Small, simple, safe price, rise the wake and carry me with all of my regrets. This is not a small cut that scabs, and dries, and flakes, and heals, and I am not afraid to die. I'm not afraid to bleed, and fuck, and fight. I want the pain of payment. What's left, but a section of pigmy-size cuts? Much like a slew of a thousand unwanted fucks. Would you be my little cut? Would you be my thousand fucks? And make mark leaving space for the guilt to be liquid, to fill, and spill over and under my thoughts. My sad, sorry, selfish cry out to the cutter: I'm cutting trying to picture your black broken heart. Love is not like anything - especially a fucking knife.

Look at me, can you tell
By the way I move and do my hair?
Do you think that it's me
Or is it not me? I don't even care
I'm alive, I don't smell
I'm the cleanest I have ever been
I feel big, I feel tall, I feel dry
Dry

Just look at me, look at me now
I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake
Just look at me, look at me now
I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake

Do I drink? Do I date?
I've got perfect placements
All my ink satisfied In your eyes
I'm the biggest fan that I've got right now
I made sure that I look how I wanted to look
The people around me, the people surround me
I feel big, I feel tall, I feel dry
Dry

Just look at me, look at me now
I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake
Just look at me, look at me now
I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm a fake
Just look at me
I'm a fake, I'm fake
Just look at me
I'm a fake, I'm fake

My stomach hurts now
And all tied off in lace
I pray, I beg, for anything
To hit me in the face
And this sickness isn't me
And I pray to fall from grace
The last thing I see is feeling
And I'm telling you I'm a fake
And I'm telling you I'm a fake
And I'm telling you I'm a fake
And I'm telling you I'm a fake
I'm telling you I'm

Just look at me, look at me now
I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm fake, I'm a fake
Just look at me, look at me now
I'm a fake, I'm a fake, I'm fake, I'm a fake
Just look at me now
I'm a fake, I'm a fake
Just look at me now
I'm a fake, I'm a fake

Fake
Fake
Fake
Genuine fake

General CommentI don't mean to come outaa left field her but I think it's an anti-emo song. just what it is to me. Listen to it with that point of view and see if the lyrics don't make more sense though.

General CommentI agree with what TeylorUndead about the intro: "the first meaning i got from this song was that he was simply mocking the 'emo' scene.
Saying how cutting just became a trend and how someone would make up an excuse, just so they could cut and have something wrong with their life, just to fit into that scene.
and that the intro to the song was his interpretation of what these kids were thinking as they cut.
and how he thought it was all bullshit." 100% agree.

as being a teen and in high school I see exactly what he is talking about throughout the song. The song literally talks about people being fake, and how people just go with what everyone else does, like scene kids. "I made sure that I look how I wanted to look The people around me, the people surround me". Influenced by other people made him what he is now, not him.

General CommentI always thought it was about someone with a split personality/multiple personalities and is maybe also about drugs. Or about how something/someone makes him a different person.

Look at me, can you tell, by the way I move into my head?

The way he goes into his other persona : via drugs, or maybe saying that there is no visible signs of when he's changing, it just happens.
He's just confused about who he really is because there's a constant battle going on in his mind. He doesn't know which one is the real him. And this explains all the different lyrics, to me anyway.

Do you think that it's me, or...?
    It's not me.
(That's how I view those lyrics, instead of one sentence.)

    I don't even care, I'm alive:

He doesn't care which is him, because, although there are two people within him, they're both still him, and all that matters is that he's still living. Unless it means that he doesn't care which is the real, because, despite using drugs, he's alive and that's all that matters.

Personal experiences have shaped my opinions on the interpretation of this song.
For the longest time, I could attach myself to anyone, and I could only listen to music and get that feeling, you know, the most amazing feeling on earth. "...a power as great as love."
Anyway, and before I met my...(cliche, I know) soulmate, I always would just keep to myself, in my head. It was just me and it felt like there was two of me. Anthropomorphic fallacy/ pathetic fallacy is where you attach a personality and emotions to an inanimate object. I did it to myself. I became attached to myself, because I had no one else, and I gave my own self two sets of emotions, and two personalities. It was the weirdest thing ever to not know how many people lived in your head.

General Comment* just an added note, I wasn't attached in the narcissistic sense. Anthropomorphic fallacy is basically where a kid becomes best friends/ attached to a teddy bear, invisible friend, blanket, etc, and claims it is real or that it says stuff, etc. I still do this, I have a hoodie, shoes, electronics and such I'm attached to.

i think it's about getting over addictions..liek cutting and such.
I swear I'm the cleanest I have ever been.

General CommentIt's about his lyrics being fake

"Is it me? or it's not me, I don't even care..I'm alive and I swear I'm the cleanest I have ever been"

He's talking about how he doesn't care if what he writes is true or not...this song goes hand in hand with "Let It Bleed" because he's talking about lying about being sober in Let It Bleed, and I'm a Fake is about him lying about lying.

    Confusing eh?

General CommentThis song is incredible, probably my favorite on this album or at least in competition with Let It Bleed and I Caught Fire (In Your Eyes).

I think this song is so ironic because its about him being fake, yet he's admitting it, so that kind of not makes him fake, you know?

Once again ironic in the same sense but a little bit of a different angle that "I'm a Fake" is about him being real.

Seems like he has a fixation with pain as well.

General Commenti thought it was about him quiting the drugs.

Like I fell, you can tell.
*fell like he was careless (tripped) an ended up going down before he knew what happened (falling, drugs). now he has to start at the bottom (the ground up) or the begining again

By the way I move into my head.
*moving into his head as he now uses he fully functioning, unintoxicated brain to make decisions. using the present tense "move" to signify time. slowly moving and piecing back together whats been packed away and ignored under all of those drugs

Do you think that it's me?
*"do you think that its the real me?"

Or it's not me I don't even care.
    I'm alive.
*or since hes changed hes not the same person he used to be or has come to beleive he is. it doesnt matter because hes clean like he knows he should be. he is alive instead of wasting away on drugs.

I swear I'm the cleanest I have ever been.
    I feel pain.
*you take drugs to make everything numb and distorted, well now that hes clean he can finally feel the sharp realities of life and the pain that he has been avoiding. maybe even the pain of withdrawal

when he says "look at me know, im a fake" its because hes changed now that hes sober and maybe he thinks being sober is just not him. Being sober is like faking who HE thinks he really is. also sounds like hes doing it for someone else. "i swear im the cleanest ive ever been" and when he says "look at me now" as if hes addressing someone to show how hard it is to go through with but hes doing it anyway.

General Commenti think in this song he is telling the world that he is a fake, durr.. but the real meaning i think behind that is his sarcasm to how much of a 'fake' he actually is.. i think this is a rad song and im happy that the band wrote such a bad ass song and i dont care how much of a 'fake' he is.. the used still rocks my socks off
