This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
Stuck in the middle
I burrow inside
Back to the cradle
Away from the burdens
Of all my crimes
Before it's fatal
The past has found me
The truth come out
Always remember
With no place to fall
But straight down
I must surrender
Well it seems I've finally
Thought of everything
I want to love
I want to feel
Find peace
Find the real
There's a face I put on
All my life
The face of an angel
I look in the mirror
Only to find
The face of a stranger
And all that I've taken
I hunger for more
Cause I'm selfish
And all I'm left with
Is a crown of thorns
And I'm helpless
Well it seems I've finally
Thought of everything
I want to love
I want to feel
Find peace
Find the real
I'll trade these lies for something right
I will kill what hurts with something pure
I will be redeemed so I can breathe again
Well it seems I've finally
Thought of everything
I want to love
I want to feel
Find peace
Find the real
I burrow inside
Back to the cradle
Away from the burdens
Of all my crimes
Before it's fatal
The past has found me
The truth come out
Always remember
With no place to fall
But straight down
I must surrender
Well it seems I've finally
Thought of everything
I want to love
I want to feel
Find peace
Find the real
There's a face I put on
All my life
The face of an angel
I look in the mirror
Only to find
The face of a stranger
And all that I've taken
I hunger for more
Cause I'm selfish
And all I'm left with
Is a crown of thorns
And I'm helpless
Well it seems I've finally
Thought of everything
I want to love
I want to feel
Find peace
Find the real
I'll trade these lies for something right
I will kill what hurts with something pure
I will be redeemed so I can breathe again
Well it seems I've finally
Thought of everything
I want to love
I want to feel
Find peace
Find the real

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
Blue

Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
I saw them in concert too in Baltimore. Man they blew me away-I was only 10 feet away from the stage! They are actually a REAL rock band out there unlike shitty bands like The Killers and Modest Mouse and shit...
Amazing, plodding hard metal riffs. mmm tasty. Not to mention some insane guitaring by the man Tremonti, perhaps the most talented major recording guitarist today (the shreds hanging off each lyrical section in each chorus are simply drool-worthy). So is Kennedy's end note (wow that man has a voice! he's in the league of greats like c. cornell, w. staley, and e. vedder)
The lyrics in this song make me think about one trying to seperate himself from former wrong-doings and start a new life, fearing that the way of life the writer has been living will soon destroy him. in other words, not so much "I wanna turn over a new leaf", but more like "I NEED to turn over a new TREE in order to LIVE". He expresses a (religious or not, you decide) need to be redeemed, as if his life really does count on it.
This is a cool song. Really hard core and Tremonti's guitar is awesome.
WOW!!! these guys are amazing. They are so much better than creed. Miles Kennedy is by far a much better singer than Scott Stapp. I just recently saw these guys in concert and they rocked so hard...
First of all, both Creed and Alter Bridge are awesome bands.
The way I interpret this song is someone wanting to get away from there not so good life that they lived before, "Away from the burdens of all my crimes." They want to be a better person, and live a better life, his lies and wrong doings are causing him pain. My favorite line is "I will kill what hurts with something pure"
This song can be interpreted as a change to Christianity. The lyrics describe a lot of things that one feels changing once one accepts Christ.
I think it's about wanting to forget bout something bad he did but some ppl won't let him "Away from the burdens of all my crimes Before it's fatal" like before somebody brings him down bout it again
i agree with snsareforlosers
There's a face I put on all my life The face of an angel But I look in the mirror only to find
And I'll trade these lies for something right he wants to get rid of all his sins The face of a stranger
he thought he was a christian but when he really is just a stranger ot god.
WELL, anybody knows that Creed & Pearl Jam was old Enemies. although i like pearl jam but i think both Creed & Alter Bridge was(is) better thatn Pearl Jam.
According to you guys, every song AB have made is about turning over to christianity.
Not one of their songs is about that
Agreed, but at the same time, you have to remember that Brian, Mark, and Myles all had a religious upbringing. Sometimes it comes out, even if only as a message of hope.

Alter Bridge isn't a religious band, but then again, neither was Triumph, Creed, or Trouble, and it still came out in their work.
