"The Ha Ha Wall" as written by and Peter/barat Doherty....
If you get tired of just hanging around
Pick up a guitar and spin a web of sound
And then you could be strung out all day
With lovers and clowns
Now I find myself hanging around
It's been a long war, we're tired and dirty
Still not dirty enough for you
Well I've been thieving
I stole the light from the dawn
Well if you come round this ledge
You wish you'd never been born
Oh tell me you can you see me
Oh can't you see through it all?
I'm empty lost and alone
Oh won't you heed my call?
It's been a long war, we're still tired and dirty
Still not dirty enough for you oh....
Oh I'm so tired of hanging around
Oh I'll pick up a guitar, spin a web of sound
Speak my love
So tired of hanging around
just hanging around
just hanging around

General CommentIt sounds like this song's simply telling people to make music. "Pick up a guitar and spin a web of sound". Also, though, it talks about the problems that music has brought them. He picks up a guitar because he's "tired of hanging around", but later in the song, it's "Now I find myself hanging around".

Basically, it's about how he started making music for music's sake, but got detracted, and ended up no better off than he started

General CommentGreat song, lyrics are sort of wrong though I think, they're probably:

If you get tired of just hanging around
Pick up a guitar and spin a web full of sound
And then you could be strung out all day
    With your lovers and clowns
But now I find myself hanging around

It's been a long war, we're tired and dirty
Still not dirty enough for you my love

I've been thieving, I stole the light from the dawn
But when I come round this'll let you wish you'd never been born
Oh tell me you can see me? Oh can't you see through it all?
I'm empty lost and alone oh won't you heed my call?

It's been a long war, we're so tired and dirty
Still not dirty enough for you ohhh

Oh I'm so tired of hanging around
Ohh pick up a guitar and spin a web full of sounds

    So tired of hanging around
    Just hanging around
    Just hanging around

General CommentI interpretted this as a messed up love song. Pete's singing about how he and his girl/boyfriend just sit around and get loaded all day, and Pete's wondering if this lover really cares about him ('Oh tell me you can see me, can't you see through it all?') or if they're just dragging him through the drugs and shit that they've done for the thrill of it.

General CommentThis song is clearly about Pete's cycle of drug abuse. Basically he's saying he started playing the guitar as a creative outlet to escape the boredom of everyday life but when he became successful it led to drugs and he was back to "just hanging around".

It's a warning to whoever's willing to listen. He's saying that there's a person underneath the messed up drug addict who wants to escape but he can't because he's addicted.
