"Dublin Sky" as written by and Darren Stanley Hayes....
I've been down a lonely street tonight
And I don't know what's wrong with me
I don't know what's wrong with me
The clouds cover up the Dublin sky
I don't know what's left of me
I don't know what's right with me
And I've tried to keep my distance
And I've sung Amazing Grace
I've tarnished all our memories
But there'll always be a trace of you
Of you

I remember laughing on that river's edge
Trying to get you to jump with me
Trying to get you to fall for me
And your trembling heart it beat so fast
Holdings hands you promised me
Holding hands we counted to three
And I felt your slipping fingers
And I saw you change your mind
If I hadn't dragged you in with me
You would have let me dive without you
Without you

They sent you all the way from Hollywood
And maybe that Dublin sky was changing you
It put diamonds in your eyes
I always thought we were going to make it through
But I wanted to hear it first from you

How many days am I going to regret you?
How many nights till I forget you?
Have I been wasting all those years?
Held down by these tears?
How many dreams have I left deserted?
How many hopes have been diverted?
Have I been buried in the dirt?
Held down by this hurt?

How many loads did I let you hijack?
How many ways can I stand here in playback?
How did I end up lying here
Crying underneath the Dublin sky?

How many days am I going to regret you?
How many nights till I forget you?
Have I been wasting all these years?
Drowning in my tears?

How many nights am I going to regret you?
How many days till I forget you?
Have I been wasting all these years?
Drowning in my tears?

General CommentI adore this song with everything I have. One of his greatest of all time I believe. The lyrics are just spectacular (as per usual).
My favorite part of the song is the second verse. It's such an awesome visual. So striking. "Trying to get you to jump with me, trying to get you to fall for me": now that line just tugs at my heart strings. Such a romantic at times, Darren has done it again. I love the playfulness of that line.
In another direction, "If I hadn't dragged you in with me, you would've let me dive without you", this is an interesting line. It to me, feels as though he is now looking back and noticing this as a foreshadowing of their relationship. How she's not going straight forward and putting all herself into the relationship, in taking a chance. Darren shows in this line that he is so passionate and was literally falling for her, but she wasn't so sure.

General CommentStages of a breakup. The relationship is falling apart, you either want to leave but the other person is holding on or you want to remain oblivious to the fact that it is. The 2nd stage is when it finally disolved, the stages of growing past that.

General CommentOne of my top three songs in The Tension And The Spark. Very well describen by Ronnie, that once beautiful and full of life relationship is slowly fading...and you know it's over, it's clear. But you still love her/him, and you can't move on. Remainds me of Savage Garden's Hold Me, or The Lover After Me.
It's about when the saddest moment comes, and you are not prepared to let go...the lines "How many days am I going to regret you, how many nights till I forget you, have I been waisting all these years drowning in my tears" are so heavy within this quite sad bittersweet tone.

General CommentYes, Misseverus, I think you're right, I can also picture in my head Darren actually diving...It really strikes me as well, I always end up crying after this one. And I like the methapore of the foreshadowing too, I think it's a great interpretation of it, I'm sure he means he was head over heels, but obviously she wasn't. Damn unrequited love :(
This song should have been released, and have a nice video, so bad the general public will never know of it...

General CommentVery true...very true...it is such a masterpiece. However, somehow it makes it that much better that the public doesn't know about it. Almost like a well kept secret who only we and select others are privvy to! ;)

General CommentI'm sure you're right. It might have been spoiled if it was released :) . The acoustic version is so touching as well...
I guess the thing about this song that hits me so hard is the idea of someone that takes the best of you, and keeps on taking, and you can't seem to do nothing about it. I've been fighting to let go of someone but is never gone completely, and he has a serious relationship while I am still stuck. He feels something and keeps hanging around saying how he cares for me...but not even close to what I feel for him. It's just not fair. Like Dublin Sky, the girl wanted him...but just not enough to dive (or in other words, to take a chance on him).
And it's been so long (6 years on july), and it gets heavier and heavier. Me wasting all these years and feeling so bad about it, nights and days of regrets and myself questioning: how long will it take to get rid of that bitterness and will I ever be healed?. And most important: was it worth at all?.

General CommentThe song was planned to be the third release from the album but after the poor sales of the first two releases (Popu!ar and Darkness) it was decided, by the record company, not to release what i think is the best song on the album (and actually one of his best songs ever).
