"An Orgy of Critics" as written by and Max Bemis....
Sweep the black super market!Sweep it up with your teeth!
Put your feather in your box (Take off! take off!)Send it off to me!
I smell oxygen, precious. Bareback on your horse, gallop off course.
Get off (Get off! Get off!)filled with fury's force.

There's a fire in the peach pit, a blaze in the snake pit.
You erased it but we saw you fake it.
There's blood on the good book, love in the bad brook.
Suck out all the nerve and make it yours!

"You brought me to my knees. Your art it brought me to my knees"
You're so perfect to please us! You make all the right noise!
Get the business clothes off (Take off! Take off!) and strip down to your voice!
We will show you your future and choke the air from your world.

You can be our once-twice-thrice-four times then goodbye girl!
There's a crack in the blank stare, back in the black raised hair. It's not fair.
I don't know who told you that but it's a lie. Believe me. I swear I shall not deceive thee.
I don't know who sold you that but it's a fake. Remind me.

My eyes see straight behind me. I've never killed nobody.
I promise you're my first; you always remember your first

General CommentClearly one of the greatest songs ever written. Not to take anything away from their other amazing material, but this song just kills me every time I hear it.

    (You) erased it but we
    saw you fake it
There's a (crack) in the blank stare,

General Commenthe's having a dig at bands who change their sound to 'make it' - "your so perfect to please us, you make all the right noise" - and warning people of the fakers - "i dont know who sold you that baby but it's a fake". i dont know, its one way of looking at it.

i can also see that he's singing from the point of view of a critic maybe? the verses in the song are incredibly negative, raging at the state of the industry, yet the chorus is uplifting, maybe the "your art it brought me to my knees" is a reference to genuine music, like his own. again, just an opinion

General Commenti didn't really like this song the first time I heard it, but it kinda grew on me and now I love it like all other say anything songs. I have no idea what it means though.

General CommentActually I think I may have an idea of what it means... I think it's about how critics always tend to gang up on artists and the line "you always remember your first" maybe about how you remember your first review. I doubt that's right but it's an idea.

General Commentmax bemis wrote this album to be a kind of rock musical chronicalling his point of view of the music industry and all that kind of stuff. what i take from this song is how some artists tend to change their original art forms in order to really make it but then swear that they haven't changed. and also how the music industry just uses up artists then spits them out when they're done with them

General CommentI think hes talking about his first critic, bot obviously not the last "you always remember your first". How critics can sometimes make you or break you. We will show you your future, choke the air from your world. Then they move on to their next "victim". He's trying to break this trend with the last verse, saying he will defeat or "kill" the critic. "Ive never killed nobody, promise your my first, you always remember your first. Great song and I could be wrong, this is just my take on it, i would like to see other opinions.
