"Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)" as written by and Peter/loeffler Loeffler....
Some will learn, many do
Cover up or spread it out
Turn around, had enough
Pick and choose, or pass it on

Buying in, heading for
Suffer now or suffer then
It's bad enough, I want the fear
Need the fear

'cause he's alone
(and he has become)
He's alone
(and he has become)

Well, if they're making it (making it)
Then they're pushing it (pushing it)
And they're leading us, along

The hassle of (hassle of)
All the screaming fits (screaming fits)
That panic makes, remorse

After all, what's the point?
Course levitation is possible
If you're a fly, achieved and gone
There's time for this and, so much more

It's typical, create a world
A special place of my design
To never cope, or never care
Just use the key cause

He's alone
(and he has become)
He's alone
(and he has become)

Well, if they're making it (making it)
Then they're pushing it (pushing it)
And they're leading us, along

The hassle of (hassle of)
All the screaming fits (screaming fits)
That panic makes, remorse!

Over and over a slave, became
Over and over a slave, became
Over and over a slave, became
Over and over a slave

Well, if they're making it (making it)
Then they're pushing it (pushing it)
And they're leading us, along

The hassle of (hassle of)
All the screaming fits (screaming fits)
That panic held, before

Well, if they're making it (making it)
Then they're pushing it (pushing it)
And they're leading us, along

Like a cancer caused (cancer caused)
All the screaming fits (screaming fits)
And their panic makes, remorse

General CommentI agree with Tara. It's about society's use of perscription drugs to deal with problems rather then using compassion and dealing with the problems with will power.

General CommentIndeed, even the band said this song is about Ritalin and its misuse by a good part of the nation. On a broader scale it also encompasses their views on how we're becoming what I call "a nation of pill-popping blobs". They make the medicine, push the medicine on you, lead us to believe we need more, and then we're screwed for life. This can be seen through many of the lyrics above, especially "Over and over a slave became." Pretty soon we're going to destroy our own biology and ACTUALLY become dependent upon drugs as a means for survival.

General CommentIt is about ritilan, but it is widely known that Chevelle is a Christian band, and I think there is a little more to it that just the ritalin addiction...I think the ritalin is more a metaphore for much deeper things...

General CommentIrate said it correctly. Pete Loeffler stated that one of his friends was suffering from the drug Ritalin, and this inspired him to write the song. If you've seen the video, its kinda like a visual of what people who take ritalin have to deal with, because many of them sit and daydream all day, and ritalin is supposed to help them concentrate. The images of the Angel, the shark, the mini golf set, the green button, and the scenery where Sam plays the drums are all objects within the cubicle of the victim. And he also sees a picture of two doctors on a magazine, which causes him to remember them constantly forcing and offering him to take more drugs, and they look like peppermints because they are supposed to be good for you. Towards the end, the phone begins to ring, and you can see the green light of the button flash, which draws his mind's attention, and causes his conscience to kinda "levitate" over to the light. Of course, sometimes ritalin does not work, which is exactly why pete picks up the phone call, and then hangs up, and begins to stare around again

General CommentAs everyone's said--it's about Ritalin, they said so themselves. but i just thought i'd add a bit to it--i take ritalin (aka Vitamin R--i call it that, actually, to the girl who sells it to me and around people i don't want to know) out of prescription, so i'm kind of... drawn to this song.

THe Atomic Punk: "I'm not sure if you can actually get high off of Ritalin, but if you can, then you're dulled down and you probably could feel like floating on air." yes, you can. for me, though, i only actually got high the first time. i was completely giddy and hyper and could barely... um... i don't know, stay inside myself, if that makes sense. it was an amazing feeling--i was fucking THRILLED about everything. if you had told me my parents had died i would've taken it with a huge grin and been running around cheering, even though i love them to death. after that first time, though, it kind of... i don't get strong 'bad' emotions like sadness or anger when i'm on it, and i concentrate really well.

by the way--Vitamin R is a legit thing for this song to be called, because in the world of... 'underground' ritalin, so to speak, that's what it means. just to clear that up for some people.

again to THe Atomic Punk: "This line also seemed to me like it could be a marijuana reference. You know, passing hits on a joint. But this probably just meaning drug dealing with Ritalin, you can pick and choose which meds you want, or you can distribute it to profit off of other people's addiction." yeah, i'd interpret it as ritalin dealing. i get my Rs from a friend of mine who has been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD (i don't remember which) for years. she basically chooses which to take, how many to take, how many to sell, etc. i'm constantly at her mercy, cos i don't have much money and ritalin generally goes for $5 per pill, so she's always choosing if she'll let me have, say, 5 for $20 instead of $5 for $25.

and finally, Evil_Ducky_Lord--ritalin is definitely not a way of keeping people from thinking for themselves. it doesn't do that for me, anyway.

General CommentI'm suprised that no one has posted yet, so I'll just be the first. ^-^. I don't know what this song means ( yes, I am a little stupid), but a great song by Chevelle.

General CommentThis is one of the first sites I have seen with the correct lyrics. I don't know what the song is about for sure, but it is awesome. I have an internship at a radio station and have heard the new cd already. It is so awesome. They did a fantastic job on this new album, and the loeffler brothers just show they are becoming better musicians. People this is a cd actually worth buying.

    so basically........awesome song! increadible cd!

General CommentThese lyrics are so general you could take many different meanings from it and they'd all probably be right.
