"Shooting Star" as written by and Steven P. Smith....
You'll make the scene like you always do
Goin' up stream down the ave. to fuck some
Trophy boy that you won tonight at the bar
So bad, so far. You'll make him sad, shooting star.
When it was me
I was momentarily proud
I'm drunk on dreams now I'm glad
I didn't say out loud
You said you'd be for real but
I don't think that you are
So bad, so far. You make me sad, shooting star.
You distant cold, a sight to behold
Everybody just sighs. Nobody gets on
With you very long, cause you don't feel bad when you lie
I'm going to sleep now
Back to first square one
Square 2 will be where I can deal with the shit you've just done
It won't be soon
To say the least it's gonna be hard
So bad, so far. Your love is sad, shooting star
Your love is sad, shooting star

General CommentHe was with a girl "shooting star". She cared more about making the scene, getting herself seen in society, being popular, you know basically being "cool" within a certain scene. She is going to be with some guy because he is a "trophy boy", he has had some successes of some sort, but if he had just come up to her in the bar she would have denied him because he was likely not her type, but I mean if you know he's had success well then ofcourse you'd fuck him because well, thats what women often do. But, this women is never satisfied and eventually she will even make this poor fool sad, she will hurt him too. Just like she did to himself. When he was with this shooting star he had dreams of a future together and he feels lucky that he didnt say them outloud because it would have been for a waste, well because obviously she never really gave a fuck, she only cares about herself. Her love is sad. It only lasts briefly and ends without giving a shit for the person she was with, she only cares about her needs and what benefits her and her place within the "scene", society, etc.

General CommentWhat Elliott commented about this song during his last interview: "This one is kind of all over the map. The end part is a joke. It was supposed to have faded out but I decided to keep this whole big noisy section at the end."

General Commentis there anywhere i could find, see or read this interview? I'd love to know all his comments.

I also find it interesting that no one has really commented on this song - i guess its because its a little more obscure and not as easily referencing death/drugs so no one has anything to say... oh minds, so simple

General Commentwoah! someone did him wrong, wouldn't you say?!?
"You’ll make the scene like you always do
Going up stream down the ave. "
    like, hollywood blvd...
Is this about his girlfriend Jennifer Chiba? geez. Did she screw him over? I almost wonder if this situation he sings about was the final straw for him. This song could be telling, but was a strange mystery it all is anyway.
Perhaps he just had a thing going with someone and it ended all wrong. It's really resentful, and he's really hurt.

General Commentno i doubt this song is about chiba since he wrote most of the songs on this album years before he was with her, not to mention he was with her until his death so obviously wouldnt have recorded such a song about her.. it is probably about another girl from his past though.. maybe the same one he wrote 'somebody that i used to know' about.

General Commentgod, i just love this song.... Elliott's words and message here remind me of Kurt Cobain's "rape me". but there's more saddness to this one, and i love his sarcism in the beginning.

Mary K, you're right about some one royally fuckin' him over. But it's not about Chiba, he asked her to marry him the week he died.

I miss him so much. oh, Elliott, i wish you were still here.
