You are a razor blade
You are precision-cut
You are a stare sharp as the tack in my eye?
At rest in my veins
[Your pulse in my neck?]
As sharp-edged as questions the time I have left
And so you are on my mind.

I need a burning stake
I need a piercing dart
I need something as hot as it is sharp
And I need to bleed
I need to burn
I need a sure thing
I need a sure thing
And you are a mystery to me

You are a paper bird
Folded and folded and creased
And bent and shaped from a five dollar bill
It's priceless to me
And never spent
It hangs from a ceiling fan over my bed
And so you are on my mind

I need a burning stake
I need a piercing dart
I need something as hot as it is sharp
And I need to bleed
I need to burn
I need a sure thing
And you are a mystery to me

I'll hang my hopes all at once on a rope
There's a possibility that this is happening to someone who's not me
I'll hold my head
Keep it still and pretend
That these spins and the webs
Are actually desirable

I need a burning stake
I need a piercing dart
I need something as hot as it is sharp
And I need to bleed I need to burn
I need a sure thing
And you are a mystery to me

General CommentIt is, its new. I think that theres only one or two versions available, and they're both live. Hopefully it makes it on the new album though, because I really like it

General CommentThis song is about the demons of the night, vampyres. Throughout the centuries these creatures have inspired nightmares, stories, and now thanks to dashboard, songs.

One of the deepest mysteries in the world, vampyres are shrouded in the night, and as announced by dashboard, a mystery to them, and indeed everyone. For they are secretive and go unnoticed in our familiar world of mortals and daily tasks. From the opening line about razor blades, a nod towards the sharp fanged family of foes within the human sapien species, to the chrous involving the burning stake, a particular adept way of disposing of these enemies of the light.

I thank dashboard for finally catering a song towards these denizens. As detestable as they may be within our hierarchical structure, they are citizens nonetheless, and I am glad dashboard has recognized this. Thank you dashboard!

General CommentNo one here knows what they're talking about. Clearly this song is about typos, and it is very evident if you look at the lyrics of the song. What's ironic is that both comments by Padfoot1516 had typos ("alot" instead of "a lot", "realy" instead of "really"); even the one where he said that typos happen (it's "happen" not "happenen"). So, who's the idiot?

Anyway, here's a breakdown of why this song is about typos:

    1. "You are a razor blade You are precision-cut You are a stare sharp as the tack in my eye?"
This is directed to when you make a typo and someone corrects you. The person correcting is usually very harsh with their observation, and the person corrected feels like an idiot (like you do, Padfoot1516).

    2. "As sharp-edged as questions the time I have left And so you are on my mind"
The questions the Dashboard Confessional closet homosexual remembers when he was corrected. They are memorable and he thinks of the person who made them.

    3. "I need a burning stake I need a piercing dart I need something as hot as it is sharp"
He needs a burning MISTAKE, or stake, for short. He definitely has a love/hate relationship with typos and those who make them. The dart and the hotness, well, that's self explanatory.

    4. "There's a possibility that this is happening to someone who's not me . . . "pretend That these spins and the webs Are actually desirable"
Yes, it is happening to someone who's not you (Padfoot1516), as well as almost every other American Idiot. Yes, you can pretend that they are desirable, but really the spins (i.e., people who make mistakes all the time) and webs (i.e., people who insist that they are correct with what word they use) are useless.

That's exactly what the song is about. And if you tell me I'm wrong, your post better not have any typos.
