"The Mayor" as written by and Melora Creager....
Oh, it's scrambled eggs what he says
He accuses me of treachery
Got the nine lies, got the wide eyes
Got a failing grade in chemistry

If you count back to the balcony
When all we saw was the mystery
Of a blond-haired boy brought his mother joy
With his pedigree and family tree

Oh, lay it all out on a wicker couch
That you wove in a looney bin
Cut it out, it's a second round'bout
Not the way of a gentlemen

Give it up, get a job,
Take a pill and leave me be
Oh, I'm quite tired of this lunatic
Why must we suffer 'cause the mayor's sick?

He say: "All abandon from this sinking ship"
Then he's off on another trip
He don't care about environment
He has made this a shitty place

My interest rate shrinks at a rapid pace
Compounded daily on my worried face
"If they take something precious from me,
I'm going to take something precious from them"

Oh, now he's losing his constituency
We thought, "Oh, this could never happen again"
If I take something precious from him,
He try to take something precious from me

There's a battle in his head that he cannot win
There's a man he could never be
Oh no, way to go
He's the Mayor

General CommentShe said she found it ironic people thought it was about Bush when it is about a retarded person. I guess it is in fact about Bush.
The lyrics are so cryptic I adore them! And the music! AH! I can't blieve this is the 4th comment, bitches.

General Commentmelora's said that it's not about the bush... but you never know, i suppose.

side note: every president that's been elected in a year ending in zero, i.e. 2000, when bush was first elected, has either died in office, been assassinated, or had an assassination attempt. so there's hope for the world yet! (not that i advocate death - in fact, that's one of the reasons why i loathe the man so much, and it's not even my country.)

General CommentShe's sure it's not about Bush? Seems to me it could be about any president... I don't think anyone got that...

General CommentI find it hard to believe this isn't about Bush at least on some level.

General Commentstentorian: She said she found it ironic people thought it was about Bush when it is about a retarded person. I guess it is in fact about Bush.

That even further makes me think that it's indeed about Bush; Melora seems to have a weird sense of humor (which I like), and people who've been to Rasputina show's know what I'm talking about. I totally don't believe it when she said it wasn't about lil ole G. W. (or at least some sort of political figure). The lyrics make sense perfectly, every. single. line.

and these lines make me think so for sure:

Oh, I'm quite tired of this lunatic.
Why must we suffer cuz the mayor's sick?
He say: "All abandon from this sinking ship".
Then he's off on another trip.

General CommentNot to mention the fact that she was (is?) a strong supporter of Kerry during the last election, with having a benifit show for him and all or whatever it was.

General CommentDid a little looking on wikipedia and found this:

According to Creager, many people assume the song "The Mayor" is about George W. Bush. It is about a mentally ill friend of Creager's.

Still fits the whole george bush thing, eh

General CommentThank you LahDeeDah - you beat me to the punch about the quote.

There's a difference between being retarded and mentally ill - get it right people.

General Commentdid anyone ever wonder if the quote on Radical recital is actually about Bush

"It's actually about somebody i know who is extremely mentally ill"

in that quote she doesn't say it's a friend (although she does later) but who know, it my be her way (read:wacky sense of humor) of calling Bush menally ill
