Only daughter
You got your ticket too soon
Holy Water
'Cause everybody's getting ruined
They are waiting to see what you do
Too long, waiting
Everybody's cleared the room
And they'll dress you up
Stand you in all the right places
Words like honey
Smile as they change your faces
With no regard to you at all
And you find they treat you like a paper doll
And they'll dress you up for the flight
Like Ophelia, you wave goodnight
With the earth and sky you cheer and cry
Writhe as all your days go by
And laugh as you die
Sweet softer shoulder, oh sweet sugar safe
Everybody's got their own life philosophy
And I can't wait 'til I find one coming from me
Oh, the bridge is narrow
You better not look down
'Cause as soon as you jump over
You won't find nobody around
Oh, the bridge is narrow
And you've got so far to fall
And you know down in dirty water's
No place for a paper doll
You got your ticket too soon
Holy Water
'Cause everybody's getting ruined
They are waiting to see what you do
Too long, waiting
Everybody's cleared the room
And they'll dress you up
Stand you in all the right places
Words like honey
Smile as they change your faces
With no regard to you at all
And you find they treat you like a paper doll
And they'll dress you up for the flight
Like Ophelia, you wave goodnight
With the earth and sky you cheer and cry
Writhe as all your days go by
And laugh as you die
Sweet softer shoulder, oh sweet sugar safe
Everybody's got their own life philosophy
And I can't wait 'til I find one coming from me
Oh, the bridge is narrow
You better not look down
'Cause as soon as you jump over
You won't find nobody around
Oh, the bridge is narrow
And you've got so far to fall
And you know down in dirty water's
No place for a paper doll

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
Plastic Bag

Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
kinds of reflect on my life situation right now. a lot of expectations/burdens on my back and people telling me what they want from me. until i'm not quite sure what i am myself. no sense of identity. like a paper doll, i am anonymous/nobody, yet i'm there. well, something like that. words can only say so much.
"everybody's cleared the room and they'll dress you up stand you in all the right places words like honey smile as they change your faces with no regard to you at all and you find they treat you like a paper doll"
everyone is changing you and telling you what to do and who to be. they don't care what you want, they just give you what they think you need without asking you.
Be what you wanna be, not what others want you to be. Simple as that.
Incredible voice.
"and they'll dress you up for the flight like ophelia, you wave goodnight"
i didn't got the ophelia part. someone did?
Ophelia is a character from "Hamlet" by Shakespeare. She's Hamlet's lover, she goes mad and commits suicide by drowning herself.
I found this song to be amazing, but ever so depressing. The girl in this song has the weight of the world on her shoulders. As an only child she bears all the dreams and expectations of her parents. She's been pushed to be perfect and it has all come at her so quickly.
At last she can make her own decisions. She's been dressed "for the fight" and is standing at the bridge between childhood and the life her parents have groomed her for.
But even if she wants to throw herself off this bridge (into the dirty water, like Ophelia, etc.) she can't because she's just a paper-doll for her parents, a toy to live out their ideals, incapable of making her own decisions because she's so crippled by their treatment of her.
