I'm down on the water
(I'm down on the water)
I don't know so I don't bother
(I don't know so I don't bother)
Looking out the window of my dad's old Chevy
(Looking out the window of my dad's old Chevy)
Eats a lot of gas because it's that more heavy
(Eats a lot of gas because it's that more heavy)
I'm down on the county line and
(We're all down on the county line)
We're all screaming Carolina
(We're all screaming Carolina)
I'm down on the water
(I'm down on the water)
We don't like what we just saw but
(We don't like what we just saw but)
I can't swim so I dog paddle
(I can't swim so I dog paddle)
I can't swim so I dog paddle
I eat inside it feels like murder
I can't swim so I dog paddle
I can't swim so I dog paddle
I'm down on the water
(I'm down on the water)
I don't know so I don't bother
(We don't got no meat to swallow)
Looking out the window of my dad's old Chevy
(I can't swim so I dog paddle)
Eats a lot of gas because it's that more heavy
(I eat inside it feels like murder)
I'm down on the county line and
We're all singing Carolina
(I can't swim so I dog paddle)
We're down on the county line again
We're all screaming Caroline again
What you say and what you want again
You can't get it because you don't get it, no
(I'm down on the water)

General CommentThe coughing in the beginning is great.

Without really directly interpreting the lyrics, I've always thought of this song as one about a guy who can't cope with life (can't swim), so he uses drugs (dog paddles).

General CommentIf you look in the album credits, nobody is playing their regular instruments. Issac is on drums instead of guitar, etc. Maybe this represents having to try really hard to get things right, or simple confusion. Dog paddling, trying to stay above the water to survive in today's fast-paced unforgiving world.

General CommentSome of your interpretations are laughable. Theo Reo pretty much nailed it. Some times words are just words.

General CommentYou're laughable! Not everything is about drugs "relapser". The interpretation that this song is simply about coping with life through drugs is about as superficial as something that might run through a 13 year old from Geneva, NY. Words are never just words.

General CommentI thought it was, "I'm down, UNDER water", and "We don't mind so we just SWALLOW". Eh.

And that (?) after I eat, is, from what I can hear, "(?)...burgers, but this society feels like murder."

I love the music to it. It's so...droning and tired sounding, like trying to swim across an ocean, you just tell yourself to keep swimming, on and on, until you sink.
