"Experimental Film" as written by John Flansburgh and John Linnell....
The color of infinity
Inside an empty glass
I'm squinting my eye
I'm turning off and on and on and off the light
It's for this experimental film
Which nobody knows about and which
I'm still figuring out what's going to go in my experimental film

Yeah!
You're all gonna be in this experimental film
And even though I can't explain it, I already know how great it's

I already know the ending
It's the part that makes your face implode
I don't know what makes your face implode,
But that's the way the movie ends
And in my experimental film
Which nobody knows about but which
I'm still figuring out
Your face implodes at my experimental film

Yeah!
You're all gonna be in this experimental film
And even though I can't explain it, I already know how great it's
And even though I can't explain it, I already know how great it's

The color of infinity
Inside an empty glass
It's for this experimental film
Which nobody knows about and which I'm still figuring out
What's going to go in my experimental film

Yeah!
You're all gonna be in this experimental film
And even though I can't explain it, I already know how great it's

Yeah!
You're gonna be in this experimental film
And even though I can't explain it, I already know how great it's
And even though I can't explain it, I already know how great it's

General CommentI don't think that the Experimental Film is a metaphor for anything, I think the song is a sendup of the typical fim student's experimental film and the type of meaninglessly surreal and pseudo-intellectual images that are used in them. This is seen in the H*R cartoon that quite blatantly parodies one of these films.

General CommentTMBG is pretty literal in their songs, so I don't think there is some sort of deeper meaning to this, however the chorus does make a pretty good metaphor for life...

General Commentyep, you got it... his life is an experimental film. We are all in it because we are part of his life. Your face implodes when you die. The only part that confuses me at all is the first paragraph. I think he's trying to film infinity, and he can't get the lighting to look right lol.

General Commentk figured it out.... the color of infinity inside an empty glass.

Let's say your life is an experimental film. What color would everythign in the world look like?

I'm squinting my eyes and turning off and on and on and off the light.

he's trying to adjust his lighting to capture everything that happens in the universe... all the light in the universe would be somewhat bright, so he has to squint his eyes lol. TMBG likes to make jokes about how it's annoying to try to get through the lyrics when really it's so much fun, so they make the joke that they're "turning off" meaning turning people off, and going "on and on" lol

General CommentThis is one of the best songs I've heard in a long time. By the way- discovered it on homestar Runner. How cool is that? I agree with the theory of life being an experimental film, both as the song's meaning, and as a real life philiosophy.

General CommentHehe i love the first paragrah. It is what it is. Thinking about some pretentious nonesense to film in his experimental film.
