When I lost you honey sometimes I think I lost my guts too
And I wish God would send me a word
Send me something I'm afraid
Lying in the heat of the night like prisoners all our lives
I get shivers down my spine and all I want to do is hold you tight

Baby, baby, baby, I swear I'll drive all night again, just to buy you some shoes
And to taste your tender charms
And I just want to sleep tonight again in your arms
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Tonight there's fallen angels and they're waiting for us down in the street
Tonight there's calling strangers
Hear them crying in defeat
Let them go, let them go, let them go
Do their dances of the dead, let'em go right ahead, girl
You just dry your eyes, and c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon
Let's go to bed, baby, baby, baby

I swear I'll drive all night again just to buy you some shoes
And to taste your tender charms
And I just want to sleep tonight again in your arms
Oh yeah, oh yeah

I know, I know, I know
There's machines and there's fire, baby waiting on the edge of town
They're out there for hire but baby they can't hurt us now
'Cause you've got, you've got
You've got my, my love, girl you've got my love, girl
Through the wind, through the rain, the snow, the wind, the rain
You've got, you've got my, my love
Oh, girl you've got my love
You've got, you've got my love
Oh girl you've got my love
You've got, you've got my love
Oh girl you've got my love
You've got, you've got my love
Oh girl you've got my love
Heart and soul
Heart and soul
Heart and soul
Heart and soul

Oh we're done, now don't cry now
Baby don't cry now
Oh, don't cry now (don't cry now)
Oh, don't cry now (don't cry now)
Just dry your eyes baby (don't cry now)
Yeah dry your eyes (don't cry now)
Baby I'll drive all night
I swear I drive all night
Through the wind, through the rain, through the snow
Through the wind, through the rain, through the snow, through the rain
I swear I'll drive all night
I swear I'll drive all night
Through the wind, through the rain, through the snow

When I lost you honey sometimes I think I lost my guts too As an opening line this would suggest that song is about the guy trying to win back/ prove his love for the lost girl

This song seems to be based on earlier Van Morrison works like "madame george" and "And the Healing Has Begun". Same chords, but still unmistakably bruce and the lyrics are great.

    My Interpretation

This song, written by Bruce Springsteen for The River albulm, is one of the best songs written about losing a loved one. This is how I interperate this song which I find very moving. Glen Hansard does a very good cover, especially when he performed it on Late Night with David Letterman.

The first verse establishes that he is suffering from a loss of a loved one. Living through the agony and the pain and wishing for more time.

The chorus is brillant. It simply states he would drive all night to do a simple task, just to have the privlage of sharing time with her.

The second verse is the most interesting and coded verse. As I see it, his loved one pays him a visit, but she is sad because she knows it's temporary. The fallen angles are searching for her to return and he desparetly begs her to not to go to them. When Bruce plays this part live, I feel in his desparation.

The 3rd verse carries on the point that she is being hunted so she can be returned to the other world. But he is insistant she cant be hurt by them because of how much he cares for her.

this song was used in the movie Reign Over Me, which was actually the first time I heard the song even though I am a Springsteen fan. not his best lyrical work, but the music in it is good as usual, especially with Clarence Clemons' sax

One of the best songs ever...sung with such powerful emotion...its a sham the way Springsteen's best songs are ignored on here.

    Song Comparison

There is a live version of "Backstreets" where Springsteen riffs into this song, which makes me think this song was around for some time before being recorded for the "The River" in 1980 -- there's several key lines or concepts from songs here "They can't hurt us now" -- Because the Night "There's machines and there's fire waiting on the edge of town" -- "Darkness on the Edge of Town"
and the entire second verse could easily fit into "Racing in the Street" This is the eptiome of "Springsteen Cool" :I swear I'll drive all night just to buy you some shoes/ And to taste your tender charms Driving all night suggests a stalking desperation, which is tempered by a gentlemanly reference to "tender charms" and a promise of a practical gift. That's why he's the boss

Geez, I thought it was written from the point of view of a taxi driver who was saying he'd work an extra late-night shift so he could make enough extra dough for some shoes.

    This song is about redemption.

The characters have a long love and have built a life together. The wife valued the relationship but the man didn't like he should of, and they feel trapped. She decides to break free and that makes him realize that he would give everything for just one more moment with her, even though she has moved on.

To his surprise he gets that moment, and through the strength of their union, they become strangers to the fallen and to him are reborn as a couple. As he holds her tight he knows that for her the strangers may be the dance. He pleads with her to not join the fallen's celebration of failure, as if that's the good life. And he confesses to her that he knows that maybe they're not fallen, maybe they are the fire and and she could join that dance.

But if she wants his soul she has it. They can be redeemed in their love right then and make their respective lives and all they have built a win for each of them and together.

In the end the music turns hopeful and the big man says the rest of the lyrics without words, like only he could. There can be no doubt of the outcome, she comes to bed and they make love again!

    My Interpretation

speaking of losing someone, wants god to send someone he's afraid to lose, a baby, possibly speaking of a miscarriage or a pregnancy that didn't go as planned? a reach???

like prisoners all our lives? him and his significant other are prisoners to the fact that they should reproduce..but can't or have failed at the moment. and he wants to put that aside, just sleep in her arms for the moment…thats all he cares about..nothing else..lets go to bed.

just wants to buy shoes for the baby/sleep in its arms( things normal parents cherish and look forward to). (songs goes back and forth from wanting to be with unforeseen child and significant other he's still with)

to the both of them..they got his love, heart and soul through everything, especially the one he is still with.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
