"Better Off Dead (Written by 'Bad Religion')" as written by and Brett Gurewitz....
I'm sorry about the sun,
How could I know that you'd burn?,
And I'm sorry about the moon,
How could I know that you'd disapproved,
I'll never make the same mistake,
The next time I create the universe
I'll make sure we communicate at length
But until then, better off dead,
A smile on the lips and a hole in the head,
Better off dead, yeah better than this,
Better off dead, yeah better than this,
Take it away 'cause there's nothing to miss
I'm sorry about the world,
How could I know you'd take it so bad?,
And I'll never make the same mistake,
The next time I create the universe
I'll make sure you participate
But until then
Better off dead, yeah better off dead,
Why don't you try pushing daisies instead
And I'll never make the same mistake,
The next time I create the universe
I'll make sure we communicate, just in case.

General Commentit's really really sarcastic... obviously she's never going to get a chance to recreate the universe, so she's just making up the most extreme propositions to a certain person (?) so they can see just how wrong their way of thinking is, never being satisfied with anything.
And she's saying if they keep living this way nothing better is going to happen, soo...
    they're "better off dead."
I just love the line, "Why not try the entire human race?.. Just to play it safe" Just to play it safe... too true.

General CommentTo stealtheharmony, Errm by she i think you mean bad religion? They wrote this first, well brett gurewitz did, but it was originally a bad religion song on the 1994 album stranger than fiction. But you got the interpretation correct ;)

General CommentI like how it wasn't accepted the two times I submitted it, even with board help. Oh well, I'm glad this excellent song is on here.

General CommentI agree with stealtheharmony, the person in the song is talking to someone who is never satisfied, and so this fisrt person gets tired of this. It coul also be taken literally from God's pint of view, but I don't think he's apologizing, he's tired of us not appreciating what we have

My OpinionI think its a lovely song, and I do think the lyrics seem like its basically God saying 'Who are you to question what I do? I'll make sure I ask for you opinion next time(!)'... he made everything exactly how he wanted it to be- even us....
The thing is we moan, but ever since the fall of man, Gods been very gracious to us, I mean the second we messed up He could have scrapped the whole thing and indeed have started the universe from scratch, but if he did that, we wouldnt be here today... and thats definitely something I'm thankful for... that He loves me even though I'm a mess and have messed up :-)
BTW Anathema are a great band!

General CommentNotice she says 'looking for a fantasy', NOT 'looking for a patsy'. I loved that line, but I wonder what she means by this change? Is it simply a misheard lyric, a misheard and preferred lyric, or a completely conscious tweak?

General CommentThis song is bloody excelent. I see it as a sorry from God for not making the universe up to our expectations. When, if you believe it, he created us and I suppose it's a reminder that nothing is perfect. So we shouldn't be so demanding and be thankful for what we have.
