"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Hey there,
I know it's hard to feel like I don't care at all.
Where you are and how you feel.
Put these lights off as these wheels
Keep rolling on and on. (and on and on and on...)
Slow things down or speed them up.
Not enough or way too much. (and on and on and on...)
Are you and I gone?
[Chorus:]
And I can't make it on my own.
(And I can't make it on my own.)
Because my heart is in Ohio.
So cut my wrists and black my eyes.
(Cut my wrists and black my eyes)
So I can fall asleep tonight, or die.
Because you kill me.
You know you do, you kill me well.
You like it too, and I can tell.
You never stop until my final breath is gone.
Spare me just three last words.
"I love you" is all she heard.
I'll wait for you, but I can't wait forever.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
Midnight
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms.
“Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
its true. ohio is for lovers.
i like how his voice sounds when he says "Because my heart is in Ohio" sick song.
It was a song i listened to in 2004 i was in 7th grade and it really helped me get through a lot of tough times. everytime i hear this song it reminds me of what it waas like back then
Ok, just to clear everything up, this is what JT says in the cd booklet. "First of all, "Cut my wrists and black my eyes," is a figure of speech. Hawthorne Heights is strongly against suicide in any form. During the recording sessions, I remember everyone arguing with their girlfriends. This rarely happens. It must have been a full moon or something, but serioiusly each one of our girlfriends were mad at the same thing. We weren't in Ohio (and we weren't going to be for a long time). We were working 15 hours a day on our album and we all just wanted to sleep. I wrote the lyrics to this song solely in tribute to our girlfriends. I knew we were going to be putting them through a lot in the next year, so this is my get out of jail free card. There is no mistaking it. This song is about our girlfriends, who live in Ohio."
Dude, this song is great. It's phat like whoa. Seriously, though, great song. They have excellent harmony and really know how to put a song together.
This song is amazing, as is everysong on their CD.. I'm loving Hawthorne Heights! They have a perfect blend of singing/screaming..
man.. where have these guys been they're awesome.. wish more people would put more songs up on here.. i'm gonna work on some
I think that this song is about a guy who broke up with a girl, and she is messing with him, and its killing him, because he doesnt want to feel for her, yet he still does. and she enjoy's making him feel bad by messing with him. I dunno, just my oppinion.
Seems same way with me.. I don't wanna fall in love with the girl I am dating because it seems she is just looking for a good couple of months -.- but the longer I stay with her the more I like her and Idk wtf to do >.<
