"Simple Together" as written by and Alanis Morissette....
You've been my golden best friend
Now with post - demise at hand
Can't go to you for consolation
'Cause we're off limits during this transition

This grief overwhelms me
It burns in my stomach
And I can't stop bumping into things

I thought we'd be simple together
I thought we'd be happy together
Thought we'd be limitless together
I thought we'd be precious together
But I was sadly mistaken

You've been my soulmate and mentor
I remembered you the moment I met you
With you I knew god's face was handsome
With you I suffered an expansion

This loss is numbing me
It pierces my chest
And I can't stop dropping everything

I thought we'd be sexy together
Thought we'd be evolving together
I thought we'd have children together
I thought we'd be family together
But I was sadly mistaken

If I had a bill for all the philosophies I shared
If I had a penny for all the possibilities I presented
If I had a dime for every hand thrown up in the air
My wealth would render this no less severe

I thought we'd be genius together
I thought we'd be healing together
I thought we'd be growing together
Thought we'd be adventurous together
But I was sadly mistaken

Thought we'd be exploring together
Thought we'd be inspired together
I thought we'd be flying together
Thought we'd be on fire together
But I was sadly mistaken

General CommentThis is my post-breakup song, it reeks of unfulfilled dreams.
It will always remind me of my ex-boyfriend, the one who I really did believe that I would be with for the rest of my life. It's a heartbreaking song, especially in its resignation to the situation - that the relationship is completely done, all the plans that she had for the future, the 2.4 children, the adventures they'd go on together, its all dust.

General CommentShe put so much into this relationship, she gave all her innermost thoughts and feelings, her theories, fears, doubts...she had all these ideas that it was gona be the one big love, but now she's left with the huge disappointment that it didn't work out, that it obviously didn't mean as much to the guy as it did to her

General CommentI agree with you completely. It's like thinking 'Hey, this is my happily ever after!' and then realising it wasn't, no matter how much you wanted it to be, it just all falls down... It's my favourite song she has written this far. She's making herself so vulnerable, being completely honest about how hurt and dissapointed she really got. Interesting name, cakeandsodomy69, what was the inspiration?

General Commentalanis is quoted as saying it's the saddest song she's ever done. I find it really sad, i especially like the line: I thought we'd be sexy together. God does anyone else think alanis has some guts? The way she refuses to be humiliated by her unfulfilled expectations, brilliant.

General Commentthis is the most depressing song I have ever heard. "I thought we'd be simple together" says it all. She had all these hopes and expectations that did not come to fruition. She was "sadly mistaken". So depressing. I love it though.

General Commentthis song honestly makes me cry, the way she gets across the feeling of shock and loss, it's all gone wrong and she just can't believe it. she can't think straight.

General CommentI believe the line "with you I knew god's face was handsome" refers to the line in the Bible, Genesis 1:27, "And God created Man in his image, in the image of God created he him. . ."
