"Smoke Baby" as written by Martin "doc" Mckinney and Hawksley Workman....
In your underclothes
You went out for a smoke
I call you in
Just before the storm begins
Your last breath of smoke
You let out in the room
It makes a cloud
Like the greyist
Perfect plume

Smoke baby, smoke baby
More alcohol baby
Cocaine in Montreal
And back out on a plane baby
An early flight will leave
And on it will be me
I'll be half asleep
And you'll get up at three

Casual as a light
Flickers before it's night
Sadness comes
And the daylight turns and runs
As the sun is setting you'll be betting
I'll be getting through
I'll find a payphone baby
Take some time to talk to you

And I have never felt
Quite this close to hell
All this rock and roll baby
Only time will tell
But we're young now, having fun now
On the town now, get around now
It's fine for now
But someday we'll settle down
But not now

Smoke baby

Who'll give you time to cry?
And time to find yourself?

General CommentI love this song. It has to be in my top 3 favorite Hawksley songs. I think the beat and lyrics (not to mention his overly sexual energy and stage presence) totally give the message of the rushed sexual encounters lovers have when they rarely see each other; it feels like there will never be enough time to catch up.

General CommentI agree... one of my favourites... I can't get it out of my head, and I'm driving my friends nuts by constantly repeating "smoke baby, smoke baby" over and over... Got to admit though, I used my editing equipment and cut that rap part out. Made the song 100x better, as the rap was totall out of groove with the song. It's the perfect song to describe those relationships where all you have is sex and getting f-ed up.

General CommentI've gotta go with defwack on the cutting out of the rap section. This bit feels kind of like Paul McCartney's little contribution to A Day In The Life. It feels out of place and spoils an otherwise brilliant piece of work. My apologies to Beatles purists, but it's what I think.
