back in the town
of pulled out lungs
shot ear drums
displaced kisses
everyone misses
miss me in kansas

the second i got out of the van
i saw you giving your cash to the doorman
i saw the x on your hand
i knew you were the one
i knew you would understand, so
i wish we could have talked all night
we had to be in illinois by daylight
and what i wouldn't give to be your man
but i can't break up the band, jeane
there must be more than letters and phonecalls

say you'll come see maine when the snow falls
say you'll come see maine when the snow falls

just kiss me in kansas
that's not home
and you're sorry when we're on the phone
but the voice in my ear
says it wouldn't be the same
if you moved here
but this is miles
it's only miles
it's just miles
and miles and miles and miles and miles

General CommentA friend of mine sent me this song, telling me "I know you'll love this song." How right she was.

General CommentThis is probably my favourite Casiotone song. I wonder if the title is another Smiths reference?

General CommentThis is the very first song I heard by Casiotone. A couple years ago a fellow musician and I exchanged mix CDs of indie/unknown bands that needed to be listened to. It was the best way to hear such a great artist. The first time I heard it, I immediately loved it. Such great stuff.

JEANE IF YOU'RE EVER IN PORTLAND

back in town with damaged lungs
& shot ear drums & misplaced kisses
    & someone who misses
    who misses me in kansas

the second i got out of the van
i saw you giving your cash to the doorman
i saw the x on your hand
& i knew you were the one
    or i knew you'd understand
or oh, i wish we could have talked all night
we had to be in illinois by daylight
& what i wouldn't give to be your man
but i can't break up the band
& jeane, there must be more than letters & phone calls
so say you'll come see maine when the snow falls
just say you'll come see maine when the snow falls

there's kissing in kansas but that's not home
& we sigh when we're on the phone
but the voice in my ear
says it wouldn't be same if you came here
    but it's just miles
    it's only miles
    it's just miles
    & miles & miles & miles & miles

General CommentSeems like a pretty straightforward meaning -- a girl named Jeane (who is either under 21 or straight edge, because of the X on her hand) comes to his show in Kansas and he is instantly smitten with her. He wishes they could be together but he lives in Maine and is touring with his band. He wants her to come visit him in Maine when the snow falls because their letters and phone calls aren't enough.
