for a secret kiss they drag you down
for a second sex they drag you down
for a public faith they drag you down
for a secret skin they drag you down

someone will kill you for a secret kiss
someone will kill you for a second skin
someone will kill you for your public faith
someone will kill you for a secret sex

in the desert singing whoh-oh-oh-oh
someone has his fingers broken
face down in the sand and bleeding
in this ditch and bleeding
i saw him
in the city singing whoh-oh-oh-oh
someone has his fingers broken
eyes pleading
face down on the concrete bleeding
i heard his mother singing
ooh ooh ooh

for a secret kiss they drag you down
for a second sex they drag you down
for your public faith they drag you down
for every skin you have they drag you down
someone will kill you for a secret kiss
someone will kill you for your test results
i heard his mother screaming
ooh ooh ooh

General Commentit makes me think of being in love with someone who only wants to use you-- kiss you in secret, get it?

    General CommentHardly.
It speaks of intolerance in modern day america/world. Whether in the desert or in the city, the reactionaries are the same. Secret kiss = adultery (infidelity)
    second sex = sexual deviancy
public faith = declaration of an off-kilter creed
    second skin = stealing identities.
test results = tests? AIDS perhaps, etc.
People die for no reason, here in America. Here in everywhere.

General CommentThis song could be about lieing in general. The title could mean crossed fingers. Kinda goes with what WhiteTide was talking about.

General Commentcould possibly be about blackmail. or interrogation; out in the desert getting your fingers broken one by one. whatever the meaning, it's a great song.

General CommentI always assumed this song was about Matthew Shepard, the homosexual man who was murdered in Wyoming in the 90's. It's drawing parallels between the persecution of early Christians, which many modern Christians still have a chip on their shoulder about, and how now that they're the dominant group some use religion to justify the same cruel behavior.
