Once she lay open like a road
Carved apart the madness that I stumbled from
But she fell away
She fell away
Shed me like a skin
She fell away
Left me holding everything

Seems impossible to me now
Seems impossible to me now
Seems impossible to me now

Once the road lay open like a girl
And we drank and laughed
And threw the bottle over
But she fell away
She fell away
I did not see the cracks form
As I knelt to pray
I did not see the crevice yawn, no

Sometimes at night, I feel the end, it is at hand
My pistol going crazy in my hand
For she fell away
Oh, she fell away
Walked me to the brink
Then fell away
I did not see her fall
To better days
Sometimes I wonder was she ever there at all
She fell away
She fell away
She fell away

General CommentIt seems like the character's girlfriend left him or somehow they split, maybe even by death that detail doesn't seem so important. But she helped him so much by being there for him and he felt she helped him with all his deepest troubles. But she fell away and is no longer here. She left him with all his problems and madness and it's too much to handle. Sometimes it's so much he contemplates suicide. He looks back and wonders how much she even cared because now she's gone. He was blinded by love and now thinks wonders if she ever felt the same, now that he can see more clearly.
    Maybe.

General CommentOnly one comment for this masterpiece song? I think it's one of Nick's best: creepy, dark, insane. I love it.
