I won't try to explain what I cannot understand
It's a bird it's a plane it's a one night stand
If I only we could ride far enough
I'd forget you altogether
It's a bluff
There is no way I could not remember

don't ask me what I came here for
It is too delicate for words
I used to want to make you talk
Now I would rather you did not

I don't mind if you read while I'm coming
It's alright if you need the t.v.
To keep from noticing my mind going blank
What's the worst thing that could happen?
Is my back all that bad?
Strike the match and watch the doll come open

don't ask me what I want from you
It is not something you could purposely do
I used to want to make you mine
Now I have better things in mind...

ok everybody this isnt me its my sister she just wanted to write what the sogn emeans:

Ok, I think this song is about a girl...ok, woman now who loved this guy and she got married to him. They didn't get along and were fighting and didn't have a good marriage. This song leads to her desire for a divorce.

I think it's the willing and wanting.. well, the urge, actually... to have an orgasm. She can't get one from the one she loves, so she's decided to go for it with a one night stand. Maybe his name is Will? Maybe she doesn't even know his name? Maybe the only way she can "get off" is when she's with a stranger? Or maybe... she and her lover have grown dull with each other, or perhaps it's just her lover that is bored with her. That's what it sounds like to me.

I think this song is more along the lines of two people that normally don't like each other but have a physical attraction. They're just in it for the sex. It seems like the girl, at first, tried to get with the guy but then they try or something and she realizes its not working anymore...

"if i only we could ride far enough i'd forget you altogether"

She seems like she wants to stop. She just wants to run away. She used to want to stay and try to get them together so they won't have to go behind people's backs.

"don't ask me what i came here for it is too delicate for words i used to want to make you talk now i would rather you did not"

This part makes it sound like the girl is ashamed of what she and the guy do. When she says not to ask why she came she means that she doesn't quite understand herself. She can't tell if they are actually doing it for love or for lust.

Also the very first line "I won't try to explain what I cannot understand" makes me think that she isn't certain of herself.

I think its about a devotion to someone who doesnt really give a shit about you. Like a fuck buddy who you want more from and they just use you for sex, it takes places as the "relationship" is coming to an end and she realizes taht it will always just be sex to him and her pleasure means nothing.

    I agree with intoodeep.

what's the worst thing that could happen? is my back all that bad?

I think this means she wants him to initiate their sexual encounters with foreplay (like a sensual massage for instance), and be more affectionate and loving.

strike the match and watch the doll come open

Strike the match and light a candle to set the mood. She wants romance and passion out of him, but he only sees her as a sexual object... essentially no different than a blow-up doll.

Like intoodeep said, her pleasure means nothing to him. He's taking what he can get out of her because she's offering it, though she's doing it in the hopes that other feelings will develop. It's the only way she can really be close to him at this point, and she too is taking what she can get out of him... even though it's tearing her up inside.

    Sad song :( Lovely though

    Song Meaning

I think it's about a woman, who just doesn't feel anything anymore. She wanted to be with this guy and then she sleeps with him and then there isn't anything more. She tries to keep up the charade the it doesn't bother her to just have meaningless sex with him and then in the process of trying to convince him, she convinces herself. "I used to want to make you talk, now I would rather you did not." She's saying that it went from her wanting more than a sexual relationship with him, to now she would just prefer they get straight to the sex and skip the social aspect of it. "I used to want to make you mine, now I have better things in mind..." Like she finally got what she wanted, but she doesn't want it anymore. It's a beautifully sad song that shows that sometimes people get tired of vying for the acceptance of someone. Very easy to relate to.

omg why havent people commented on this song? this is a great song! its really sad but it still great.

i think its about this girl who used to like this guy and then he stopped noticing her and then she realized that he stopped so she stopped liking him but she still has hope for him to come back to him.

i dont know... but whenver i hear this song i always think of a prostitute..

    "i won't try to explain what i cannot understand it's a bird it's a plane it's a one night stand"

The sex has become so routine its like what a normal perosn would consider brushing thier teeth in the morning...

but i dont know... i know thats kind of a weird interpritation of the song...

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
