"Destiny" as written by and Bennie/marcus Benjamin....
People tell me my life was predestined.
From my life others shall learn a lesson.
Want a leader with the world on my shoulder
Age is young but my mind is much older.
Living up to everyone's expectations
Condemned me to a world of damnation.
I gotta clear these voices from my head,
All these opinionated noises.
Listen to the voice of my creator,
Opens doors to a path much greater;
On this path, the days draw nearer
When I can be happy, finally happy.
Searching for my destiny,
I search for what makes me happy,
Lost in what others thought of me.
I've gotta be happy, finally happy.
Searching for my destiny,
Search for what makes me happy,
Lost in what others thought of me.
I've gotta be happy, finally happy.
Time to broaden my horizons,
Come out from the dark and open up my eyes and
Start to define my destiny,
Experience what life can really be.
No longer concerned with your opinion,
Over my life I have dominion.
I'm stronger now than before.
I'm sure I can be so much more.
Not what you thought I would be,
Cause I'm gonna be happy, yeah,
I'm gonna be happy,
Finally, you see. . .
Searching for my destiny,
I search for what makes me happy,
Lost in what others thought of me.
I've gotta be happy, finally happy.
Searching for my destiny,
Search for what makes me happy,
Lost in what others thought of me.
I've gotta be happy, finally happy.
Searching for what makes me me.
I gotta be so happy.
See, I gotta please me and me first.
How can I love you,
And anyone for that meaning,
If I don't know who I am?
If I don't know where I stand?
Now I'm gonna be happy;
Yes, I'm gonna be happy. . .

Song MeaningWhen Mary J. sung this song, it is clear that she's speaking on the feeling we all have when we try to please those when we aren't pleasing ourselves. She speaks of how we become so lost, when we disregard our inner-self, for others. But in her defining "Destiny", she understand that her happiness, self-worth and prosperity starts with herself and in order to continue to produce these elements to others, she has to understand herself to continue.
Nice job Mary. This song shows that growth within her soul was imminent.
