I went to sleep last night wondering how I'd feel
If I woke up tomorrow and you were almost healed.
If you could use your hands, what would you use them for?
Would it be to strangle me?
Because you just can't...

Hold down, why don't you just be the wave that washes over me?
Hold down, why can't I just be the one that carries all of you?

And I can see it in your eyes.

I'll rest my head tonight, thoughts I can't reveal.
The shame inside of me, the fate they've tried to seal.
If you could use your hands, what would you use them for?
Would it be to strangle me, or just try to ignore,
The fact that they don't care, why they stop and stare?
Why they put you in that dusty dirty chair?
Everyday is hard, hard for you to survive.
While we maintain this materialistic paradise.

Hold down, why don't you just be the wave that washes over me?
Hold down, why can't I just be the one that carries all of you?

And I see you fall (And I see you fall)
And it feels like I'm already there.
And it feels like you're already there.

You might carry me (You might carry me) on through.

Hold down, why don't you just be the wave that washes over me?
Hold down, why can't I just be the one that carries all of you?

And I went to sleep last night wondering how I'd feel.
When the world just came.
And I went to sleep last night wondering how I'd feel.
When you were falling down.
And I went to sleep last night wondering how I'd feel,
When the world just came (falling down)
And I went to sleep last night, last night, last night (Falling down).

General CommentTo me, it almost sounds like someone is crippled in some way (If you could use your hands, what would you use them for) Maybe the person singing got them physically hurt in someway (car accident or something) and he feels guilty for it.

After the person is out of the hospital, he/she is forced to have to use a wheelchair because of the injuries (The fact that they don't care, while they stop and stare, while they put you in that dusty, dirty chair.

That's the vibe I get, I dunno. I'm just trying to think outside the usual "This song is about LOVE!" box. Not that there's anything wrong with that, Love is very important, and is a very special, yet common subject matter that EVERYONE can relate to.

General Commentimo this song is about loving someone but socially it not being acceptable, and so you in one way or another are bad to them

the author regrets it though, cuz it hurts him, and he wishes he knew how the other person felt, and is waiting for them to cross the boundary...
