In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
I'm bored
I'm the chairman of the bored
I'm a lengthy monologue
I'm livin' like a dog
I'm bored
I bore myself to sleep at night
I bore myself in broad daylight
'Cause I'm bored
Just another slimy bore
I'm free to bore my well-bought friends
And spend my cash until the end
'Cause I'm bored
I'm bored
I'm the chairman of the board
I'm sick
I'm sick of all my kicks
I'm sick of all the stiffs
I'm sick of all the dips
I'm bored
I bore myself to sleep at night
I bore myself in broad daylight
'Cause I'm bored
I'm bored
Just another dirty bore
All right doll-face
Come on and bore me
I'm sick
I'm sick of all my kicks
I'm sick of all the stiffs
I'm sick of all the dips
I'm sick
I'm sick when I go to sleep at night
I'm still sick in the broad daylight
'Cause I'm bored
I'm bored

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
Wrong and wrong. Iggy Pop is known for his brilliant sarcasm. When society accommodates you with everything you could possibly have, your life lacks substance. This song also expresses the shallowness of boredom and how "bored" has become just one of those words that mean nothing and that people merely throw around as a euphemism for their emptiness. Moreso a very poetic satire of a bourgeois plane of existence than an expression of real boredom. Boredom is simple. It's the way people use the word that is complicated.
interesting, infinity.

but i think the earlier posters right. this is just a song about boredom.
Did anybody else get the impression he was bored after listening this over the years..?
IM BOOOOOOOOOOOOORED
this song obviously has a deep meaning, i think it means when you don't have anything to do, you get bored. he must be bored.
Yeah, or like he can't find anything interesting in his life anymore, cause all the things he used to like don't mean much to him anymore
I always thought it was "lengthily" monologue and living like a "dog".
@koolkitties It is. The lyrics are "I'm a lengthy monologue, I'm livin' like a dog". Most of the lyrics on the net are riddled with errors.
@koolkitties Funnily enough I always heard it as "Lincoln monologue", which would be unfair because Lincoln's Gettysburg address has just 271 words, compared with Edward Everett's oration on the same day that droned on for hours and hours
I think that Iggy is sure that because he is bored, his value is lower and he feels like nothing. Just one bored human being without purpose, without meaning.
